if i get some screenies ill put em on here

I just had a look back at my BF2 stats and I played as Commander for around 10% of my total play time. Which considering there were 7 classes and I got at least a silver badge in every class (15 hours required in a class before you could earn a silver badge) was a decent chunk of my gaming time in BF2. It was an important role in BF2 and a good commander could make a big difference to even a half decent team.

It's a shame to see it go and this is definitely a concession made to the game being mutli format and the need for everything to work on a controller.

whilst i never played commander in BF2, i played a squad leader very frequently, and having four or five squads being properly co-ordinated by a good commander made a team a ruthlessly efficient fighting force. probably the best aspect of the game was the amount of coordination possible.

i remember a couple of games where we defeated opposing teams almost twice the size simply because of the good squad-coordination that our commander provided.

No Commander = NOT CONFIRMED

If it is confirmed, then I hope that there will be something equivelent in it's place or better.

As long as the Commander was actually a team player then great because a number of times, Commanders have been totally useless and inept.

Organising squads with specific commands, watching the maps very closely...spotting those sneaky blighters that are trying to flank the team. Very important stuff..also, hearing the requests from the squad leaders and making informed decisions and which squad to assist first.

I totalled 543hrs on BF2 and didnt think i used commander that much but just checked and I chalked up 30 hours  It was defiinitely a benefit to the game but the last year b4 BC2 came out it seems like all commanders did was "enemy troops spotted, enemy troops spotted, enemy troops spotted, enemy troops spotted, enemy troops spotted, enemy troops spotted, enemy troops spotted, enemy troops spotted" i raged at many commanders for this.

I used to spot everything, drop ammo crates, drop vehicles, give squad orders and artillery targets before squads arrived at flags and talk to squads giving them exact enemy locations when I zoomed in the map.

Playing commander was like playing an RTS game without the base building.

And double points for commanding a winning team was always a welcome bonus.

I'm pretty sure most of us are after the same thing, BF2 with an updated engine.

Don't really see the point if its just the same with a different engine. Ideally they should take the best of BF2 and improve on it heavily. Theyve already said that infantry combat will be "deeper" than what it was in previous games. Not really saying much as the infantry combat in BF2 wasn't all that to begin with.

It really is going to be interesting to see how much they have improved upon battlefield with their showing at the GDC.

BF2 is six years old this June.

The xbox 360 is also six years old in November.
