Battlefield 4 - Performance FIXES Thread (Good or Bad)

I noticed my 670 randomly down clocked to 800mhz when the random slow downs occur and back up again a few seconds later, driver issue or damn AMD game?

I was getting horrendous performance on my rig, then I updated to the latest Nvidia beta drivers and set BF4 to low priority in the task manager and im getting awesome performance on with everything on High and Mesh on Ultra no MSAA. mainly hovering around 55fps.

updating punkbuster for bf4 fixed all my problems

6850 latest beta drivers

I was getting bad stuttering on Win7, 570GTX and i7 920 but reinstalled PB and it made it all silky smooth on High :D

My friends also reported similar improvements so I would suggest this for anyone struggling.

I'm running a i5-3570k @4.2ghz and a Windforce GTX 780. Windows 7. Hitting 55-60 FPS most of the time on Ultra with 2XAA, although at times it will drop to the 20-30s for a few moments. Also some noticeable stutter on occasion. I wonder if upping my RAM from 8GB to 12/16GB may help?

No!

Try the tweaks mentioned in op, otherwise Windows 8 may help you being as you are on an I5

Yep, Win 7. I've got an SSD caching my mech drive which is where BF4 is. Aside from that, nothing else special going on. Everything at stock.

Same as me, ended up going Windows 8 and perfectly happy which I wasn't on Windows 7 :)

I'm using Start8 so it looks like Windows 7 anyway, none of that Metro ****

How accurate is Fraps?

These max and averages are a bit misleading to me.

I tried the tip to set my FX6300 to 4 cores only and my gameplay seemed MUCH smoother.

However Fraps says:

Frames: 27863 - Time: 904375ms - Avg: 30.809 - Min: 0 - Max: 49 (4 cores)

Frames: 17989 - Time: 614234ms - Avg: 29.287 - Min: 0 - Max: 57 (6 cores)

It would appear that there is an issue with the AMD '6' core CPU's going by what others have said.

Everything on Ultra originally terrible... 680GTX recommend this..

i thought sod it try everything low...

no change really unplayable.. so unsmooth

something isnt right there to state the obvious ;) my spec is a lot worse than yours same problem even with the beta driver it isnt playable ;( even on low its really bad . hmmmm

My spec with everything Ultra, AA turned off and post AA at low, 1080p I get about 45-80 fps, mostly hovers around 55-65fps.

GPU usage is always 90%+ and my CPU is getting pretty much maxed out too.

Just done some testing using Riva. On a 64 player map i'm getting 95% utilisation on both cards in my 680 sli. CPU seems to hover around 80% utilisation.

I think this engine could be epic. I think it could be more efficient than Frostbite 2. Plus I never saw my CPU yellow line spike above the gpu green line.

All on max I'm getting 120+ fps and when taking in large views it drops to 75+.

Happy bunny. Lets hope it only gets better and not worse!

I thought I would try the 'high' settings today (instead of Auto) and the game still ran flawlessly.

Intel i7 4770k @4.5Ghz
8GB Ram
AMD 6870 1GB Vram
Samsung Evo SSD
Windows 8

I'm amazed people are having problems with GPU's far more modern/quicker than mine.

Edit - That was on a full 64 player server BTW.

Upgraded from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 8 Pro today and it's cured the lag, fps drops, and freezes! yay! that's with the 331.40 Beta drivers.

Also noticed that BF4 appeared on nVidia Experience this morning, so I let it Optomize everything for me. It put everything on Ultra apart from Texture Quality, and now the game is running sweet as a nut and getting a solid 70-80 FPS even on the big 64 man map.

Not sure whether it was Win 8 or the Experience Tweaks but defo worth doing both.

I noticed that BF4 was still using 70-95% CPU though

i5 4670k @ 4.4ghz
8gb RAM
GTX 670 OC
Samsung Evo 250

Don't forget to update PB manually, it fixes a few niggly issues.
