Battlefield 4 Recommended Requirements - 3GB Vram

To be fair im on a 1gb card now, I'm looking at (although not fully set on) a 2gb/4gb 670.

This 3gb marketing stuff seems a bit fishy (Considering its got AMD slapped all over it) and I never trust alpha benchmarks they rarely give a good impression of the finished product. However at 1080p res which is still pretty common I cant see vram being That much of an issue, Guess we will see closer to the time still in two minds what card to go for though!

:D
I'll buy you whatever game you want Matt if i'm wrong :D Or the expansions for BF4.
I'm pretty decent with bets and pay up 99% of the time if i'm wrong.

60fps is deemed playable so that's the framerate +-5fps it has to get. (for VRAM to run out a comparable card in power has to show big gains in the minimums so 20vs30 etc.

Amd card gets 20fps average but does not run out of vram.

Nvidia card gets 5fps average and runs out of vram.

The game is not playable so the quote in the start of this thread is a bit misleading to make people think that 2gb may not be enough but 3gb is!

Both AMD and Nvidia cards 'Might' be sacrificing image quality much sooner than expected by the '2gb and 3gb will live forever crowd'. <-- looks a tad more realistic.

This is all obviously guess work and if we are to believe the graphs shown in the alpha.

I mean what if the 660's / 670's / 680's / 770's All got a 30fps stuttery mess maxed out, yet a 7870 / 7950 / 7970 all got 60 fps solid..... Who knows?

Some bold claims about how well some cards will handle 1440p max settings. My GTX 780 is dropping to 45fps on Skyrim on that res although I am running a lot of high res graphic mods. I put Crysis Warhead on ultra and that too was dropping to 40 mark on ultra and that's 10 years old nearly.

Not bad, I thought the recommended specs would be something like a 7950/GTX670.

Only another 3 weeks left for the beta, will see how my 7970 handles it on ultra.

3gb cards in xfire won't be sacrificing but 2gb cards might was the point. Assuming available grunt is there which judging by the gameplay footage ive seen of 7970ghz crossfire in Bf4, it will be in abundance.

So i was browsing through CCC looking for the Battlefield 3 CAP profile and look what i stumbled across.

Looks like the AMD optimizations for Battlefield 4 are already in place. Not surprising i suppose given the videos we've watched. However maybe this 13.10 beta driver is for the Battlefield 4 Beta which begins at the end of the month.

EDIT

Maybe i should try the BF4 profile for BF3?

Really need to think about getting a new monitor... I'm guessing my 1440x900 won't stretch the legs on this MSI 7950 OC BE 3gb ;)

I doubt I'll have my CPU upgraded before BF4, Monitor maybe... So I'll give an idea about how my Q6600 (running stock, might go upto 3ghtz) runs it :p

Sorry to go slightly off topic. I noticed it mentions windows 8 is recommended? Will be beneficial to upgrade from windows 7 to 8? or will it be a waste of money?

Waste of money you aren't going to see any performance gains and if you do it will be like 1-3fps. It is recommended probably for future proofing the game and will be the platform Dice will be using to develop battlelog etc.

So don't upgrade just for BF, feel free to upgrade to get the latest OS though :D

Thanks guys for the input. It will cost me an extra £40 to get win 8 as I can sell my windows 7 used for £40 anyway :) £40 doesn't really bother me to have the newer OS. Thanks again!

I'm planning on buying it as well but it's a right **** on as I use my PC for work, so can only do it on the weekends and hope that everything still works and I remember details for everything.
