'BBC considering ditching Legard'

Due to Leggard, i`ve been watching on the red button for 2 sessons now. Only to get the race with 5 Live`s team, result excellent coverage. I do think that BBC 1 needs to shake up their whole coverage, compared to other broadcasters.

I like the way so many people (not just here) are going on about Merc and Schumacher being the surprise package - you'd think Rosberg didn't exist, Schumacher needs to start outperforming his team mate before causing any big upsets :p

Thats exactly what I was thinking.

I remember last year, after he was being demolished by Rosberg, at the start of the season, people kept saying, "Give MSc a chance."

Well, we progressed through the season and while MSc did improve, he was merely matching his team-mate and not doing to him what he did to every team-mate before he joined Mercedes.

The only thing that surprised me was when Alonso said that MSc was someone who he was looking out for. Alonso must know more than anyone, about his competitors, so I guess we shall have to wait to see if MSc is going to be making up the numbers once again, or if he can establish himself as the team-leader at Mercedes.

I don't rate Rosberg particularly highly and when I see MSc struggling against him, it makes me feel that MSc really should retire and accept that he is past it.

Anyway, MSc is once again stating (as he did last year), that he is good for the Championship, so who knows, maybe Mercedes will give MSc a car which allows him to shine.

That or Alonso is trying to belittle his competition :p

I'm not sure he is.

Last year, he clearly stated that his main competitors were Hamilton and the 2 RBR cars. He was 100% correct.

Alonso doesn't have much of a sense of humour and talks very very straight.

This year he only mentioned MSc's name and I just found that strange. Perhaps Alonso (and MSc), know something that the rest of us do not.

I thought he was much more suited to the football commentary, to be honest.

When he's got less time to fill with meandering, waffling, factually incorrect but stubbornly complete sentences, he's perfectly acceptable.

His 'excited mode' doesn't seem so jaw-grindingly ridiculous when it's applied to something fast-paced and momentary, like footy.

Good luck to him, I say. Certainly seems a better fit for him than F1.

I heard him on MOTD the other week. He sounds totally different commentating on football, seemed alright to me.

This. I think everyone has been far too 'full on' with the hate for Legard. Don't forget it was only a couple of years previous that everyone was doing the same for James 'Fathead' Allen.

Granted he was lacking in charisma (to say the least!) Also granted he could miss the most obvious things at times, but then again didn't our beloved Murray Walker suffer from a similar affliction?

I think everyone since MW has struggled to fill his shoes. I joking once said that the only way they could replace him is with Rory Bremner doing an impression of him but there is a grain of truth to it: no-one could impart the 'pants on fire' enthusiasm to even the most humdrum (Bahrain/Valencia/Hungarian) Grand Prix.

Legard was a competent BBC commentator for other sports and F1 on radio and was merely promoted to the F1 TV job when BBC got the rights, and they caught the mood at the time that everyone was fed up with Allen's Hamilton hero-worship. Unfortunately for Legard, he has been found wanting and not raised his game and his time is up. I just don't get the hatred for him on here

I'm going to be very 'interested' to see how the DC/Brundle thing works out, as I'm thoroughly unconvinced at the pairing. I will hold my hands up at this stage that I do enjoy the Ben Edwards/Tim Harvey pairing for the BTCC and the Cox/Parrish paring for MotoGP - they both seem to have the ex-pro/enthusiastic commentator paring working well... (although I will miss the eye-candy of Suzi Perry and latterly Jennie Gow...)
