'BBC considering ditching Legard'

i remember cringing numerous times when he commented on replays as though they were real things

Just makes the commentary completely pointless when you know more than the commentator, which you never feel with brundle.

I can't really see DC and Brundle working. It'll be nice to have the extra technical input but we need someone with a bit more charisma, someone like Murray!

and he goes down on the grid like he's a world class reporter who should get in first, largely because he used to be a driver where others weren't, yes, but he was a crap driver.

He's a journalist mate, it's what they do. And he does it very well, better than anyone else I've seen on the grid.

Hopefully what'll happen is that Brundlefly will take over the bulk of the race commentary in place of Legard with DC effectively taking the 2nd seat as Brundlefly had to when Legard was there.

one thing that I think may well work in favour of the new pairing, is that when brundle was racing, it was real racing, with simple controls, and driver skill. Modern F1 cars are so complicated that even current drivers are concerned that it is getting too complicated. With DC being a more 'current' driver, he has some experience of modern driving, and that may help in places that MB is lacking relevant exp.

YES HE'S GONE!!!! Glad about that. My fav was obviously Murray and Martin, but after that I thought James and Martin were good. Brundle and DC will be ok. TBH anyone was better than Legard.

I think the BBC F1 team will be rearranged again in 2012.

Jake will be covering the Olympics for sure, as the BBC has made it quite clear that he is a younger presenter that knows his stuff and people actually like him.

I get the impression they want to pull him off to present other things, the Olympics being the biggest of which. His tweets make it sound like he really likes F1 though and so would miss it.

chances are that the Olympics could be held during the F1 summer break so JH would nt have to miss (m)any races - either way Olympics is only two weeks, and during the European F1 season, so I cant see that being a factor

Ive no doubt JH WILL do a lot of Olympic commentary, as this was mentioned on the BBC a while ago, but it doesnt mean it will affect F1 greatly

Im sure he will do some WC (athletic) events in the next year or so to get some practice in

So what's Legard going to do now? Start an F1 Blog? :D

He did some presenting work at Beijing in 2008, doing the graveyard shift (I think) so I'd say he was a shoe in for 2012. Especially as that Balding woman has gone and Leatherneck Barker must be due for the scrap heap soon.

As for changing around the F1 team during the Olympics, didn't someone step in for Jake during one of the last few GP's? Can't remember the exact circumstances.

Yes I remember that. It was a lady who stepped in and if memory serves me correctly, it rained so much that qualifying had to be called off. I think that was the weekend she deputised.

Ah yes the lady, Lee McKenzie. She wasn't great at asking questions and filling silence but I think she'd get better with practice. Keep her with EJ to make sure she takes the job seriously.

Hopefully we'll get a more intellectual commentary like 5Live now, imo Legard was only ever any good for the 'greenest' of viewers who didn't know for themselves what was happening, hopefully the Brundle/Coulthard combo will raise the bar a notch for us veteran fans who understand what is going and would like a bit of technical discussion.

I'm sure he'll be very very upset when he comes on here and reads my post about how he was worse than James Allen at commentating.
