'BBC considering ditching Legard'

I don't think that would work. Two ex-drivers together? The reason that Murray and Martin worked was that one was an ex-driver and the other a really enthusiastic, knowledgeable F1 fan. Having Brundle and DC would give us too much of one kind of commentary and not enough of the other.

Agreed 100%

Yep. You need the combination of a good comentator and an expert to generate discussion and question/answers. 2 experts would alienate the audience.

What we need is David Croft. Surely someone can start a facebook petition to get Leggard out and Crofty in?

I think Anthony Davidson's good in the free practices so they should give him a go. he has a really good style thats quite informative

Yes, he is good, but again, in the expert role next to another commentator (Crofty). When Brundle retires I think BBC should replace him with Davidson.

But they should definately avoid 2 drivers as a comentary team.

When Brundle retires in about 20 years, I'm sure Davidson will have moved onto other things. ;)

at the end of the day its Brundle's recomendation to have DC, so its worth a go - cant be worse than Legard

Im not convinced it wont work, even though its unconventional not to have a seasoned commentator, think DC deserves a bigger part as he is an interesting guy (as long as he isnt too pro Red Bull all the time)

From planet F1

According to reports in the British press, Martin Brundle has been promoted to lead commentator on the BBC's coverage team.

Speculation has been rife for some time that the contract of current lead Jonathan Legard will not be renewed after two years in the position.

Brundle, who has served as an analyst alongside Legard, began his career alongside commentating great Murray Walker and now looks set to step up to the position of chief man behind the microphone, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

Former McLaren driver David Coulthard is the man touted to step up into Brundle's position, with the Scot having performed the role of paddock commentator in 2010.

Coulthard recently confirmed that he was in talks with the Beeb, but did not elaborate as to the exact nature of the discussions.

What does this mean?

He means he can't see one tech guy (read: expert) ask the other a question mid race when they already know the answer to the question.

It is really likely to be the main point of failure I think, where Leggard will ask Brundle questions to stimulate his input from the perspective of an ex driver, with Brundle and DC there won't be similar opportunity for this sort of thing. It'll be on Brundle's shoulders to sort this though and I suspect he'll be able to work around any issues.
