'BBC considering ditching Legard'

Brundle was Coulthards manager for years and might even still be, so they have known each other for years and will get along well, and Brundle is more than capable of being the main commentator, so I'm looking forward to it.

Will be interesting to see how they get on (if true). I would say anything is better than Legard, but said that before with Fat Head and was proved wrong :D

That'll be the one that last year did a lot of...

Jake/Eddie/Everybody: "Look.. there you can see it, the front wing plainly moving more than it should be"
DC: "Nope, its not moving at all, yer eyes must need testing, that Redbull is awesometastic I tell you, look at how it zips past everyone else, perfect car, zoom zoom zoom oh how I wish I were still driving one.."

Jake/Eddie/Everyone: "And Ferarri/McLaren get a well earned win there, great race, lots of action.."
DC: "We wuz robbed.. I gotta fly to my DTM race.. bye.. blah"

This did seem to be a regular mantra chanted by Coulthard. It always appeared as if he was doing the BBC a huge favour by even being there. The moment the race ended, he would make his excuses and bail out of the post race show.

Probably so he could go and celebrate in the Red Bull garage. :p

He was? Since when?

I seem to recall him being very informative during massive incidents (ie mass pile up at Spa from memory) and general back ground info

As I have already said, he made a lot of mistakes also - but he was a lot better commentator than Leggard will ever be imo

And that's what made me think that Brundle shouldn't be accompanied by another driver like DC. Coulthard is too closely linked to a current F1 team to be properly impartial and whilst DC might be better than Legard if we get DC in 2011 I think we'll get fed up of a driver or team being compared to Vettel/Webber/RBR.

DC has experience of winning titles with Williams and McLaren - while he has only viewed RB of winning from outside, this is one reason why I think he could be more impartial than some give him credit for (although I do know what you mean, he can go on about RBR a little too much sometimes)

Chandock doesnt have the experience to do full technical commentary on BBC, partnered with 2 other people he is good at the lower profile radio job though

He was a test driver for both Red Bull and Toro Rosso and I believe he's actually a consultant for the team. So he might be more impartial with RB he's actually still got links to the team.

Assuming he is on RBR's payroll (and I believe he is), he will definitely be biased towards RBR...it would be impossible not to be. My feeling is that he genuinely "likes" RBR. They have treated him well, and it is impossible for him not to view RBR without rose-tinted specs.

I personally like the combination of Crofty and Davidson. During the practise sessions, their commentary is 2nd to none. I don't understand why the BBC are clinging onto Brundle as if he is Gods Gift to commentating. If it were me, I would ask Brundle to commentate on the practise sessions and ask Croft and Davidson to do the main shows, with after show analysis with Brundle, DC, Jordan and Humphries.

DTM don't race on the same weekends as F1, nor on the Monday after F1. ;)

Well for whatever reason, DC seemed determined to leave the F1 forum on more than one occasion, as he had some form commitments. I can't remember if they were related to DTM, but he definitely left a few times, making some excuses.

Brundle is loved by the fans, and has won multiple awards for this TV coverage of F1 which is a big factor in the beeb's thinking. I always thought that Brundle's insight in live commentary was second-to-none. That is, until I heard Davidson's commentary. In my view Davidson provides a similar insight into the sport as Brundle, is equally comfortable in the commentary box, but tips the scales by having a more recent experience in the sport. As we all know F1 is extremely fast moving, and now that Brundle has been out of the cockpit for so long, I'm just finding Davidson's commentary to be a little more informative.

What Davidson doesn't have though is Brundle's journalistic qualities. As well as being an ex-driver, Brundle has become a top notch journalist, and handled the pressure and intimidation from the FIA particularly well during his criticism of the Mosley regime a couple of years ago. This makes Brundle top dog at the beeb, and it seems that he pretty much decides what he does, and even who is co-commentator is. His pre-prepared stuff such as the on-board pole position lap commentary, and featurettes that he does are also really great.

My ideal situation would be Brundle involved in presenting, grid walks, on-board pole position lap reviews, featurettes, and post-race analysis with Croft and Davidson doing the commentary.

Having listened/watched most of the practice session on the red button (FV301) this year, I would agree Davidson would be a good choice for the future.

But I would also suggest that if he doesn't get a drive this year then Karun Chandhok would make a very good commentator/pundit.

He has an up to date knowledge of the modern support coupled with a very good historic knowledge of F1

That would be great.
But I would like to see Davidson get a race drive really. Crofty and Brundle would do it for me to :)

Regarding Murray Walker, yeh he made lots of mistakes but he was so much more charming and entertaining than Legard. He was part of formula one in the same way as the Chain theme music is imo.
