BBC possibly to drop F1 coverage...

Watched a bit of the Superbowl. It strikes me as 4 hours of advertising with occasional breaks to watch the odd bit of American Football. Only on the BBC you don't get all the over the top American adverts, you just get a studio of presenters who know little about NFL scrabbling for things to say.

The fact that every camera view seems to be individually sponsored on American sports annoys me though.

"now lets look at the Zinger Replay! And over to some shots from the Gatorade Hele Cam, before we go back to the Pepsi Pit camera for some words from our sponsors..."

eh? lol...

most of the major sports they cover are long...longer than a 90 minute football match, the main reason why i hate NFL "drop ball, 20 minutes before ball is touched again, 3 seconds of play repeat process" zzzzzzzzz

i enjoy baseball and the NHL though easier to watch. indy is also pretty cool but only the highlights :p same for nascar imo.
Try and read ;). Most of the major sports have either very short quarters/halves or whatever or with baseball multiple innings that generally dont last that long on average. Plenty of time inbetween those to shove an advert break in unlike what happens in F1 and to a lesser extent football...

What is up with people today and the inability to read posts?

EDIT: Bit too harsh - think its that time of the month :p

ps3ud0

What was that race on ITV where there was a great battle going on for the final few laps, and the stuck an advert over it, then showed the final few laps after the race had finished?

I think sky will eventually run overlay adverts, or use ticker advertising, perhaps PIP or split screen to display ads during the footage.
I can even see ads being introduced for Safety car situations and race stoppages in 2013.

Imola in 2005 - Schumacher had chased down Alonso and had been hounding him for lap after lap, and with only a few laps to go and Schumacher looking like he might make a pass stick, ITV cut to the ads. In the end Alonso held out but I remember being absolutely incensed at the time :p It caused enough of an uproar that ITV had to publicly apologise!

That completely drives me up the wall enough to never watch watch shows that do that

They also missed Hill taking the lead at Hungary in '97, Schumacher crashing out of the lead in Canada in '99, and several other big moments over the years.

In fairness to ITV, though, they did learn to pick better times for breaks. After the first couple of years, any time there was a safety car they'd immediately go to a break so they wouldn't have to do it later in the hour. Missing the Schumacher pass on Alonso was entirely due to the fact that the battle had been going on for ages and they hadn't wanted to cut away in case Schumacher did get through. In the end they had no choice as they had to air the adverts, and they got unlucky.

Sky, OTOH, are so far as I know the only broadcaster in the world who have advertising breaks on subscription-only channels. Which is why they should never have been allowed F1.

The one that sticks in my mind is when Montoya & Schumacher came together in the tunnel at Monaco in 2004. Goes to ad break under SC all is well but come to see Schumi somehow trundling around on 3 wheels. Yes an SC is normally a safe time to cut to an add but we were deprived of a live wtf moment, stupid adverts!

Schumacher didn't actually pass Alonso ;).

I would imagine there will be ad's this year if the race is red flagged. Possibly even qualifying too. No reason why they wouldn't.

There will almost certainly be ads during qualifying. The actual format is designed to allow this with the structured breaks between each session.

Yeah, sorry, I mean't additional adverts. Sky will use the standard ad slots during Qualifying, but if someone crashes and the session is stopped, Sky will likely chuck some additional adverts in, which isn't really a problem.

Likewise if there is a red flag in the race expect a bunch of adverts to be thrown in. Again though, not a problem.
