Certainly seems the house of cards is crumbling, the company is built on his cult of personality which seems to be unravelling.

Nothing new here. In 150 years time he might well be remembered in the way We remember IK Brunel.

While Brunel is today widely regraded as one of the greatest (If not THE greatest) engineers of the 19th century, it is often forgotten that while he is renowned for his visionary and groundbreaking technologies. In practice, many, if not most, of his projects were commercial flops. He, like Musk, also relied on a personality cult. regardless of how many flops he had, the general public were always wondering what his next modern miracle would be and potential investors were always trusting that the "Next" one would be the one that would make their fortunes.

Now, for my own part, I am not convinced that high performance EV's are actually the way to go, But Musk and Tesla and the crucial "Early Adopters" that have bought into his dream have pushed the technology by decades. If, indeed, we have a situation in 40-50 years time where the bulk of the worlds vehicles are actully high performance EV;'s then it is Musk who will be regarded as having shown the way. Even if his current ventures fail and go bankrupt.

The man clearly has issues, but I really do hope he will keep it together and recover from this crisis.

Not sure how this is even news, its been widely known Elon has been essentially working 24/7 on Tesla for a long time. He probably should have kept his mouth shut though to be honest but hey it wouldn't be a week without some Tesla controversy.

If you didn't know there is a huge 'debate' currently over trumps decision to relax emission standards for vehicles because of 'national security' and having lower emission standards would increase road deaths because vehicles have to be lighter. What kind of crazy science is that? It also forgets about the millions that die due to poor air quality....

Given how much anti-trump and global warming discussions that are going on right now you would expect the mainstream media would get behind a 'eco' company like Tesla but you know that doesn't get you clicks unlike a bit of negative controversy ;).

As much as Elon has a massive reality distortion field, it is very much counteracted by the FUD the media and wall street analysts pump out almost daily.

The real issue is that the 'shorts', the media and the 'cult of Elon' are each having to escalate their their narratives to constantly one up each other and it is now frankly out of control and the only aim to so satisfy their own self centred interests. Its relentless on all sides.

Something really needs to de-escalate this scenario so wall street can go back to making rich people richer (given current trends shorting Tesla stock probably isn't the best idea) and Tesla can concentrate on building cars.

It is news because Elon Musk chose to give an interview and make it, and all the recent events, even more news from his perspective.

There seems to be a sense that the board of Tesla would like to de-escalate this scenario, but clearly Musk still isn't listening as he's just engaged with mainstream media to give them a story to pump out...

He's done it again, honestly can't keep his mouth shut.

https://www.theguardian.com/technol...-cave-rescue-is-child-rapist-without-evidence

Elon Musk has escalated his baseless attacks against a British diver, claiming without evidence that the man who helped rescue children from a cave in Thailand was a “child rapist” in an email to a reporter.

The embattled Tesla CEO faced widespread backlash in July when he first called the diver Vernon Unsworth a “pedo” in a tweet – an unfounded claim against a man who was part of the international team that freed 12 young footballers and their coach from the Tham Luang cave complex. Musk, who had unsuccessfully attempted to assist the rescue mission, eventually apologized to Unsworth.

On Tuesday, however, BuzzFeed published two new emails from Musk, in which he called a journalist who has written about the dispute a “******* *******” and he launched new extraordinary claims against Unsworth, without providing documentation to support the allegations.

Musk called Unsworth a “single white guy from England who’s been traveling to or living in Thailand for 30 to 40 years”, alleging that he had moved to Chiang Rai “for a child bride who was about 12 years old at the time”. He asserted that the city was “renowned for child sex-trafficking”.

BuzzFeed reported that it had investigated the allegations and Unsworth’s background, but could not verify any of the claims and said that it was unclear where the allegations originated.

Unsworth, who said he was considering legal action after the original insults on Twitter, is now moving forward with a lawsuit, his lawyer said in an email to the Guardian on Tuesday: “Elon Musk’s campaign of publishing vile and false accusations against Mr Unsworth is inexcusable. Musk hopes to be sued and he deserves to be sued. He will be.”

Musk’s email to BuzzFeed, which was a response to Unsworth’s latest legal threats, said: “I suggest that you call people you know in Thailand, find out what’s actually going on and stop defending child rapists, you ******* ******* … As for this alleged threat of a lawsuit, which magically appeared when I raised the issue (nothing was sent or raised beforehand), I ******* hope he sues me.
Musk also defended his original effort to help the rescue mission in a follow-up email.
Musk confirmed to the Guardian on Tuesday that he had sent the email but did not immediately comment further. Tesla spokespeople did not respond to a request for comment.
BuzzFeed said it could not locate any UK criminal records for Unsworth, 63, and also spoke with his girlfriend, who said she was 40 and had been with him for seven years.
The controversy comes at a time when Tesla and Musk continue to battle intense negative publicity and embarrassing controversies. His seemingly impulsive tweets have repeatedly led him into trouble. Notably, Musk recently tweeted that he had “secured” funding to take his electric car company private, which prompted scrutiny from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and backlash from investors.
Earlier this year, Tesla’s credit rating was downgraded to negative, with Moody’s citing a “significant shortfall” in the Model 3 production rate. The CEO also faced criticism after he slammed analysts on an earnings call in the spring, saying they should stop asking “boring, bonehead questions”.
After the first attack on Unsworth, some investors demanded an apology and criticized Musk for distracting from Tesla’s mission.

We know from a few videos he's done (maybe also one MKBHD did) he's suffering from extreme stress. It's going to be difficult for tesla over the next few years as brands such as BMW, Mercedes, VW move forward with their electric cars.

In hindsight, maybe he should have integrated Tesla technology with existing vehicles rather than try to build the cars himself?

Its great being an innovator in a particular sector but the electric car market seems to be quite insular and talent is routinely moving from company to company. I would love to buy a Tesla one day but more and more manufacturers seem to be jumping on the idea of hybrids and waiting until Tesla has built the demand and infrastructure for completely electric cars before they jump in properly. I don't know if they will survive long term but I really hope they do. Its nice to see smart people with a love for tech making changes to the world rather than big business just growing and bleeding everything dry.

seems there's a few geniuses/savants who have been afflicted by something that may have curtailed what they could have been capable of, just look at Howard Hughes.

i did wonder given the scale of battery manufacturer compared to car manufacture that what he was trying to do was use tesla as a tech demo to get the main brands on-board with ev's whilst setting himself up as a de-facto supplier of the underlying running gear.

thing is that the old guard are, well, old, and they've been making cars for a long time and they know what the market wants and how to build cars properly so it stands to reason you'd expect some extremely stiff competition from them the moment tesla looked like any kind of serious competitor (as opposed to all those other electric car manufacturers who've tried to change the world over the years, yeah those ones)

He's not stable. He's brought a huge amount to the different businesses, but the various boards must begin to consider if his liabilities outweigh his benefits. I imagine the problem is that there's such a 'Musk premium' built into their funding and valuations that they cannot afford to be rid of him without cast iron confidence that they can deliver progress to the same expectations without the erratic behaviour.

It is hard not to feel sorry for him, notwithstanding some of the specific things he's doing / saying. He's probably relied upon his ability to multitask and manage multiple complex problems of significant size, but appears to have reached and exceeded his capacity and is unable to let any of his responsibilities be delegated away. The same qualities that made him such a success now risk destroying him.

they will throw it at you fairly readilly even here although i think we use zopiclone instead but it has worse side effects so you dont want to be on it for long (tastes like ass)

It's commonly prescribed for insomnia and only mildly addictive. Can affect mental state however especially when used to excess.
