Being Sued by Atari/Davenport !

Good, I hope anyone illegally downloading games are sued big time. I know EA and that type of company makes billions of years from games, but the actual people who worked on the game get hardly anything considering how hard they work. Downloading games also puts decent small studios, like IronLore, out of business.

lolol, yea they work really hard releasing the same old ***p every year. my hat goes off to them.

I remember way back some games I can't remember having so many bugs you couldn't complete the game, I think two or three by Codemasters. CGA/EGA/VGA era.

I knew OCUK held some scumbags but I'd never think that they'd have so many people supporting game piracy. I guess none of you know how much work it takes to develop a successful game.

I don't download games and I haven't done so for years but I just had to laugh at that comment :D

What would happen if say, you sourced a genuine copy of test drive, scratched the disc ,then claimed you were merely trying to get a playable copy? Because then surely you have licence to play the game given that you own a genuine copy?

Most proprietry licences will prohibit the use of P2P software for this use as you are still uploading and therefore sharing the game.

I had a similar letter a while back, saying that I had illegally downloaded Call of Juarez.

I own a copy of Call of Juarez, it came free with my Graphics card!

The letter went in the bin, where it belongs!

Is license violation a criminal offence Burnsy?

No, but unauthorised distribution is an infringement of copyright according to the Copyrights, Designs and Patents Act 1988.

i dunno... there's an awful LOT of high and mighty here; Not surprising really when there's a very high % of rich kid on these forums, compared to general society anyway. Have those people never smoked the herb once, or sped in a car, or got on a train without paying for a ticket?

If you say you've never EVER knowingly done something even slightly illegal then sorry, but you're a liar.

The justification for repeatedly downloading is a difficult one; i do it as and when i want some new entertainment and the number of games, movies and music I've ever bought probably numbers under 20. I download for free because there are other areas of my life, which i can't get for free, that I'd rather spend my limited means on.

You could argue that, in which case, "games and music are not a right" of mine. Isn't that right Stoofa? You agree with that don't you, rich boy? But you only live this life once and if you think that I'm going to restrict myself to things that are only within my personal economics and nothing more than, frankly, sod off. As a species we're hedonistic by nature, with few exceptions, and that doesn't look like changing any time soon.

Well you could argue that they're both against the law. The government tells us speed kills and it appears you've wilfully broken a potentially dangerous law.

In some people's opinions speeding is far worse than copyright infringement

Are you not able to defend copyright owners just because you've had a speeding fine?
Not on moral grounds, no. And you aren't about to tell me you haven't sped since either are you? :)

there is no justification for pirating other than you dont want to pay for it. people need to stop dreaming up excuses for it, its pathetic.

i had a discussion with a friend on msn about this and she was telling all sorts of rubbish and gloating about it? ok the truth is i have pirated stuff in the past, a far amount of it. but i have no pirated material of any kind on any of my consoles or handhelds. i have pirated music yes but i am under no illusion - i have it, because i wont pay for it. not until i find the cd cheap enough to replace it, which i do as much as possible.

if something is too expensive, just dont buy it!. or buy it when its cheaper at the very least, but dont lie your arse off about it - your doing it because you are CHEAP.

I cannot quantify if something is too expensive without sampling said thing.

I see a game priced at £40.

Could be a great game, worth £40, or so terrible that they should pay me to play it. I won't know until I play it though.

Yay for circular arguments! :D

DONT PAY OR REPLY!

In the 2nd post of this thread, the 2nd link down, I posted about a friend of mine who had the same letter.

He never replied, hasn't paid a penny or heard anymore.
