Belgian Grand Prix 2014, Spa-Francorchamps - Race 12/19

Hill was not "suckered into overtaking". Schumacher was off the track and rejoining in a manner that would cause a collision was illegal. He should have been disqualified from the race, and given the circumstances and the reason for doing it he should also have been excluded from the WDC.

Every top driver from the last....25, 30 years maybe, would have gone for that gap the way Hill did. Except probably Prost. And every one of them, Prost included, would have done what Schumacher did in his situation and chopped to the apex.

Of course, Mansell in his prime would have actually gotten far enough up inside Schumacher to make the move stick! :D

The 94 title was his most contraversial. How can anyone say that's not a tainted championship?

On the other hand, setting aside all the emotion of Senna's death etc.,can anyone truly say that Hill deserved the title that year?

I'm FAR from a Schumacher fanboy; hell I hated him back then and was rooting for Damon to win it but with the benefit of hindsight it was for the best that Michael won it that year.

** EDIT **

Perhaps I should clarify my 'suckered' comment above (and perhaps backtrack a bit). Schumacher didn't 'sucker' Hill into going for that gap - certainly not deliberately - as his car was ailing after hitting the wall. The only way Hill was 'suckered' was to go for a gap that in hindsight perhaps wasn't there. In a lot of ways that was admirable: "racer's instinct" etc. but in a lot of ways it was foolhardy. I don't buy that he re-joined "in a manner that would cause a collision"; he was firmly back on the track before Hill made his move - in fact on the other side of the track - and took what could be considered a reasonable racing line from that position to "chop to the apex" of the corner as JRS says.

Today we came together as a team and discussed our differences.
Nico and I accept that we have both made mistakes and I feel it
would be wrong to point fingers and say which one is worse than the other.
What’s important is how we rise as a team from these situations. We win and we lose together and, as a team, we will emerge stronger.
There is a deep foundation that still exists for me and Nico to work from, in spite of our difficult times and differences.
We have the greatest team, the strongest group of individuals who have worked their hands to the bone to give us the best car you see us racing today.
It’s important that we never forget that and give them the results they deserve.
Today, Toto and Paddy told us clearly how we must race against each other from now on in a fair and respectful manner.
The fans want to see a clean fight until the end of the season and that’s what we want to give them.
It’s going to be a tough road from here but Championships have been won from much further back than I am now.
And I promise you that I will be giving everything and more to win this for my team, for my family and for my fans.

Some good PR going on there :D

Mercedes are paying LH a great salary and providing him with the best car car on the grid... Damm right he should read their scripted press statements...

All Leiws can complain about is the fact that Rosberg is getting 'the rub of the green' this season... That's it.
