Well, I got mine yesterday. I have it hooked up to a 7800GTX 512 which I also got from ocuk last week. Oooohh dear, I've spent a lot of money
Anyway, here's my mini review/ tuppence worth:
First off,
the bad points...
1. I have one 'dead pixel'/ tiny blemish right in the middle of the screen, couldn't be in a worse spot! However, it's more of a tiny grey splodge than a dead or stuck pixel. Difficult to describe, but it's actually not as bad as a dead/stuck pixel as it's not as definite if you know what I mean. If it was towards the edge of the screen I wouldn't give it a second thought, but where it is, it's annoying.
Have tried the usual magic rubbing to fix it and no go. However, don't think it's worth sending back, can't be bothered with the hassle, and I might get one with 6 proper dead pixels for all you know.
2. I have slight backlight bleeding from all four corners. Only really noticeable when the screen is fully black though, but again I'm a tad annoyed as I heard this monitor was much better for this issue, compared to the Dell 20" WS for example.
3. The black levels. Are ok, but not great, especially coupled with the bleeding issue. Still, not fair to be too harsh as all LCDs are still way behind CRTs on this. When will they catch up???
4. Colour levels. Not great straight out the box. Have done lots of tweaking, but only really happy after reducing the gamma levels a bit and adding a touch of digital vibrance through the nvidia card settings.
The good points...
1. Looks lovely and good build quality. Fits in perfectly with my other stuff (all black and silver) and even has a blue light on the front (which matches my case lights/ fans) Sad but true to get excited about such things.
2. The size. I also have a 19" mitsubishi 930sb CRT (18" actual screen) and a Hitachi 28" LCD tv which I've had hooked up for the last few months via VGA. I was worried it wouldn't feel big enough after the big hitachi, but as I now sit much closer to the Belinea and it's much sharper due to higher res and dvi, I think it's much better and just as immersive as it still fills your field of view.
3. Ghosting. Very impressed. My big hitachi was pretty bad for this (24 ms response on that), and this is a huuuge improvement. V pleased.
4. 2D clarity. Superb through DVI for web browsing etc. Super crisp.
5. High res loveliness. Due the the 7800GTX 512 I can now run pretty much everything at 1680x1050 no bother, though COD2 and FEAR are really pushing it at times (god they're superb but badly coded games
)
Through DVI you can also run at slightly lower res, 1:1 and have borders top and side to get a bit more performance out. I like that and doesn't look too bad having slight black borders I don't think.
Other points/ questions...
1. This mnitor doesn't scale, not with DVI anyway. No matter what settings (display adapter scaling, or monitor scaling) - if you run anything at a lower res than 1680x1050 then it just does 1:1 with borders. TBH I don't mind this as LCDs look terrible in my experience if not 1:1.
2. What brightness, contrast, colour temp settings do you other guys run at???
After much tinkering I'm on brightness 50, contrast 97, colour temp custom with red at 90, green at 95 and blue at 95. The other presets just didn't look quite right for me, and I've had to tinker in the Nvidia colour settings too as described above.
Overall though, I'd say get one. Is a great price for what you get let's be honest.
That'll do for now I think...
