Benitez sacked!

I said he oversaw the start of the downturn, the stats don't show how poor we were becoming, the lack of competition at the time disguises what was becoming obvious

I believe Dalglish started the downturn, he inherited a great team and while he haqd a good start on the back of 3 big signings it went gradually downhill resulting in him resigning when he realsied the way things were going

Those are pretty impressive stats even if you think they are poor, dominance continually shifts in football. I think you're being too harsh on him, managers have come and gone since him and they've not achieved what he did. I don't think anybody expects his appointment to be permanent, I'm sure he certainly doesn't want it to be permanent.

Even Mourinho has aged pretty obviously since his time at Porto! I think the only manager who seems to have avoided stress affecting his appearance and let the alcohol do it instead is Fergie...

I saw a photo of Alex McCleish from his WC days and he looks exactly the same, minus a bit of hair

hmm thread title fails.

Would like to see Roy Hodgson at the helm (from the prem managers), or someone akin to Guss Hiddink, hopefully there is a get out clause on his Turkey contract!

The issue there is why would either of them go to Liverpool ?

The club is in turmoil , and has a good chance of losing its star names, not a good stable base to build from.

I've considered this and I dont think I would like Hodgson or Hiddink. Ideally I would like the new manager to be a long term acquisition, someone who can build an era so to speak. At 62 and 63 years old , at best I would think we would only get a few years with either of them, I would be wanting someone longer so that we arent needing to change manager again in a few years time.

Not sure who though. Someone younger maybe, on the up, would be cheaper too probably.

Not going to happen. Tony B stated that only a short term (~6 month) contract is on offer due to potential new owners maybe wanting to bring their own man in.
Whos going to go to liverpool for 6 months and then MIGHT not have a job at the end of it? with no funds to boot.
Face it .. we'r going to be getting someone useless like Sven, and thats at best.

I am on about after that point, at this stage with new owners on their way nobody is likely to be a guaranteed long term appointment. Whomever we get I would consider them merely an interim manager at this stage, I am on about the next "proper" manager.

Paul Ince? :)

I was convinced O'Neill was going to take over from Houllier at Anfield but it never happened, maybe now his time has come. He's done a good job at Villa (albeit with a fairly meaty chequebook) but there were rumours about unrest not so long ago, talk of him walking out mid-season etc. I think with the emergence of Man City he has taken Villa as far as they can go, Europa league is about as good as it is going to get I feel.

Obviously the sensible option might be to wait until after the World Cup and subsequent sackings/resignations from coaches who have failed to deliver.

MoN would be mad to join Liverpool now, why leave a secure job with a club progressing steadily for a club in turmoil with an uncertain future.
