Trusted Reviews have got a review up for this magnificent monitor.
I have a lot of time for the trustedreviews "reviews" and as you may guess I do have the reservations about them. We have yet to see what's so special about the Benq FP241W, apart from that HDMI port. Unfortunately, this review can't tell us much. Specs are confusing, especially because contrast rate is sometimes 800:1 and again sometimes 1000:1. Not to mention that even BenQ themselves on couple of occasions couldn't confirm the panel type (and yes, their support sucks). I was equally surprised about this:

Benq USA spec

Specifically: Display colors: 16.7 million with dithering

For me, question is if it's using the new M240UW01 V0 AUO P-MVA panel or not  If yes, that's interesting and dithering shouldn't be there and if not ... that's even more interesting.

The BenQ.com (Taiwan HQ) website is usually the most current, except for the odd typo.

This monitor had a panel change/upgrade between initial specifications and final release. As the London press launch was in mid July, the final spec had been upgraded after this launch.

We normally don't put product live on the UK website until 2 weeks prior to launch, however due to the pre-launch interest in the FP241W, and unfortunate delays we went live with the initial spec, this was updated approx 2 weeks ago.

The model tested by trustedreviews was the final specification, taken from 1st production samples, and is an honest view of this monitor, they are probably one of the most experienced team of reviewers in the UK, they are fair but hard to please.

Hope this helps.

I see. In that case we can assume that this is a typo, I guess ?

I'm not surprised about the last minute spec change as there are usually many contributing factors for this. Question is if that upgrade is for better or for worst and which panel type BenQ decided to integrate at the end, especially because it seems that BenQ is hitting the market hard with really aggressive pricing. Any info you may have ?

Fair enough. However, I would expect (especially from the sources like this) more in-depth information and that may include the colour charts, colour reproduction quality (especially at stock set-up), measurable black point and contrast rate, panel uniformity tests, overdrive application, proper response time and gaming session tests, monitor OSD configuration options and possibilities, resolution scaling, panel coating quality ... and so on. It may sound nice that observations are only based on comments that picture is "spectacular" or "exceptional" and that DisplayMate tests are OK ... but that's not complete picture. Review is simply not elaborated properly and it seems that attention prevailed on the HDMI and TV features. That's OK, but it doesn't define the monitor globally and maybe (more importantly) for some of us this feature will have the secondary priority. Hope that this makes sense.

Anyhow, it's nice that we have strong competition in the 24" sector. I know that BenQ is manufacturing LCD monitors for Dell, but Dell 24" range dominated so long that it's just about time that we see some changes here. Of course, such healthy competition is always a good thing for the consumers.

It's nice that we have someone from BenQ here ;) I guess that you will be our reliable source of information about their LCD monitors range.

well we don't release specific panel sources, however it's common knowledge AUO is part of the BenQ Group, and whether its LCD production or Monitor manufacturing we're top 3 in both globally.

I don't get much chance/time to post regularly on forums, but try to keep an eye on the most important, so if I think I can help I will.

jimmy_blanc is going for employee of the year... how big is the bonus dude? :p

I agree with igors... personally i cant trust "exclusive" reviews.
Exclusive = biased.

But then maybe it just is as straightfoward as the closing statement "Put simply, if you’re after a 24in widescreen monitor, this is the one to buy."

I await conformation from several sources :)

Thanks for the link. Google translation of the link seems to do a much better job of translating:

As you can see its been scaled-up.

Looks about right.

Its letterbox - black bands are larger than I would have expected but this is prob due to ratio of the original source.

Scaling seems to be behaving like a commercial HD-TV. Reviewer commented that "6ms is not enough for some action scenes" I’d say this would be a limitation of all Monitors in this price bracket. You’d have to spend 3 grand plus on the top of the range Sony to get high performance 1080p.

Colour in still pics looks very impressive. Defiantly prefer Black Model not too keen on the Silver.

1 sample = 1st reviewer = exclusive review.

Can I suggest looking at their other reviews on BenQ or BenQ-Siemens branded product, and you'll see little sign of bias.

time will tell; some good, some bad, some amazing, that's the nature of reviews, especially in the UK.

employee of the year? FAF.

that told me :p

Im not that nieve, an exclusive review is a biased review... but that doesnt mean its wrong, it just means that in my mind it needs several others to confirm that this is the daddy of 24".

Jimmy, do you know when we can expect to see the FP241WZ (BFI edition) released?

There is no 1:1 pixel mapping on the the FP241W, I've asked HQ for some reasoning but not had feedback yet.

The FP241WZ will be available towards the end of November. The exact date will be detailed on www.BenQ.co.uk when I have confirmed shipping.

Price is expected to be approx £100 more than a standard FP241W.

hope this helps.

".... hope this helps."

It does, but where am I gong to find the extra dosh to afford this BFI wunderkind .. can't you just tell me if it really works or not and the REAL pros and cons and not this hazy "luring of the minds".

shown against the FP231W shown at CeBIT the FP241WZ there was a significant difference.

Against the FP241W during the UK press conference it was still noticeable, mainly on fast moving panning.

it has three settings for the timing of the black frame. Personally the middle setting was ideal for me, but this technology is just that, personal.

It also has an off setting. Important as you won't want it on during PC use.

if I was making the choice then I would go for the standard version, but that's only as I rarely use my PC for movies.

Hi there

Are you a BenQ employee?

If so you may want to ask why BenQ have told me that the FP241WZ will not be available until next year? Who is right here, you or them?
