Benq FP241W (Now available from OcUK!!!!!)

no, it would need scaling chips and all sorts added, people mention it, but i really don't think it's going to happen :(
it will already have that anyway wont it, we want it to stop scaling so that might be possible to bypass the scaler via the firmware.

i despair, i am once again seriously contemplating buying a dell and selling it when something better comes out (not the benq by the looks of it)... i shoulda just done it ages ago.

it has scalers, but apparently not ones capable of maintaining aspect ratios or doing 1:1 pixel mapping. Sorry, slightly misleading on the wording before. I dont think it can be fixed with firmware tbh

:) The BenQ site has been updated with a real date now "6th November" I hope so or else I will go nuts. :)

I was hoping it would drag out till the 8th so I could see what price the nvidia 8800xt was going to hit at and add that to my order as well.

Dear Dr monitor guru

I am right in thinking though that some video drivers (nVidia) allow you to do 1:1 mapping for PC apps. It's just presumably XBox 360 in particular that could have a problem as it's VGA output is only 1300xsomething or other and 1080i (which despite 1080p being available from an update won't in all likely hold be supported by many games) is only 1900x1080 and so would get stretched as well....

Or did i just make that all up? :D

Your's sincerley
confused ;)

Would all this mapping issue be the same if u had a blue ray player in your pc? Or the streching would be still there

yep, seeing as the graphics card is outputting the full screen res, it should add black bars where appropriate

It can be done through software like NVIDIA drivers. In fact, here's a pic of the screen running at 1:1 scaling in this way:

external devices are the issue here really

aghh i see :)

i couldnt figure out how output form a pc would be different from output from an external source. I gotcha now.

Good thank. Will decide on screen once ps3 is out and screen shots for this combo are out

Just thought that the ps3 on this screen will not be 2 streched. PS3 nvidia gpu so it would be logical for the drivers in this machine to do the same as the pc versions. Then again with this screen not having 1:1 anything is illogical

Just contacted Benq abotu th FP241WZ and its down for 5/12.

Now I am not sure if it was in this thread, or one other, but the WZ has the 1:1 pixel built in. It was described as the multi media monitor. Not sure how much stock I put in that, until I see Benq post the exact specs.

Though its for the BFI I am waiting.

where have you heard that? There's not been anything released from BenQ to suggest it has this option, in fact the screen is pretty much identical to the FP241W, but with the addition of BFI technology (AMA-Z listed). The manual for the FP241WZ is available here and makes NO mention of such an option in their OSD and in fact remains with the wording that lower resolutions than 1920 x 1200 will be stretched and interpolated to fill the screen. As much as we'd like to see this option available, i really don't think it is in the FP241WZ sadly....

I don't think any version of this screen has 1:1 pixel mapping.

I'm sure baddass mentioned that the manual for the Z version makes no mention of 1:1 so I don't think it will be in there.

I spoke to BenQ technical support via phone the other day and after 10 minutes on hold the lady said that one of the technicians didn't think either screen would have 1:1 pixel mapping

Ignore what I said above as baddass has those Ninja posting skills :)

Think im going to pass on this monitor, for an Extra £30 I could get a 32" HD Tv and a 22" lcd monitor.

I must admit that is far better value for money. However, i dont mind paying a lot of money for something thats decent. I dont see why i would want to spend the extra money on this tho over a dell 2407... but i dont want a 2407 either.
