BenQ XL2730Z Freesync Owners Thread

I still think it is just a better out of the box calibration with this firmware, either that or they have somehow.... made the anti glare coating lighter (far more likely to be the former though)

Any more idea on this badass or pcm2?

My settings was all reset and I put back in the settings I was using before. They is definitely a noticeable difference about this firmware update..
I hope this would have a review redone.

Yeah same! Unfortunately I don't think we will get any updated reviews at least not from the good review sites anyway as they will be busy reviewing new monitors.

Sadly I think you right :(

How ever I dont think all us on here so far tested new update and seen the difference can be wrong.

Got Tony coming back later interested see if he notice anything. who else had there Monitor coming back today?

edit
nails666 so be nice to hear from him also.

Yeah there is no doubt that you guys are wrong, as essentially everyone that has got their monitor back has mentioned the improvement. It is just a question of what have they done/adjusted.

Does anyone have a calibrator such as spyder5, i1 colormunki/pro?

Mine's not due for delivery until 6.30-7.30pm today so still got a bit longer to wait but once I've got it and had some time with it I'll let you know what I find.

Thanks

Turns out mine cant be delivered to a store, so will go to dpd to collect it. Cant wait to try this out, even without the update it was absolutely fantastic.

And anther guy to test :D look forward too seeing your results also.

I am still waiting for BenQ to get back to me with a list of exactly what changed on the V002 Firmware. Until then I can only assume that they may have changed the default gamma mode so it had higher gamma (richer colours) and perhaps balanced the white point better. On the unit I tested there was little that could be improved in terms of the image short of using a different panel, once it was tweaked as noted. It would be helpful if people claiming their 'same set of settings' look better now could list those settings.

Hello from Canada... just a quick mention for people in Canada reading these forums.(if thats ok?) I called benQ and took my monitor to a local shop in Montreal and 4days later I got a brand new monitor with 0002 firmware... I can see the difference in motion clarity in games. Now I'm giving this monitor a 9/10... Have fun! eh.

I just came across this the 2nd time and just had to respond !!! if you where to buy this screen and a Fury X videocard and not utilize FreeSync would be completely missing out on something special!!!

IMHO its completely worth it to wait just 1 week to have the AMA - FreeSync firmware updated to the screen.... the benefits are just to many and there are literally no cons to utilizing FreeSync with a Fury X videocard....

The intervals the screen updates using FS are more frequent & consistent so whatever framerate you have its going to appear to be higher than it really is... so if your Fury X reaches 144FPS in whichever game you play + FreeSync your getting ULTRA smooth moving images without any tearing ... SO WORTH IT.

dont knock down FreeSync its the bomb, I know I cant live without it!

Yeah, i guess id try/use it if i had it tbh :)

Got display back so far very happy. UFO Ghosting test I can clearly see the Setting working when switching between AMA :D

Has for colours better am not sure yet but I can say with 100% that either they cleaned the panel to bring it back looking new or they put a new panel on this.

I had couple finger marks on this that I looked at before it went all completely gone.

Great stuff shankly, im going to get one now, as Furys back on :D

Hi guys.

Got my screen back 2 hours ago, been playing with it since.....gotta say I'm not impressed at all. What the hell have they done to my screen...........they made it even better trollolololol :p

Sorry about that, just couldn't resist. Before coming on here wanted to give it a fair few hours before posting. You know how some folk blab out straight away how amazeballs it is without really having a bit longer than a knee jerk response, didn't want to be that person.

Ok so my findings, yes without doubt the new firmware has improved the IQ beyond question. When I received the screen back, all the settings had been reset by factory, my eyes nearly bled with 100% brightness, 100% contrast etc etc. Dialled back in the settings I had before the screen left, did some browsing around on the computer, folders, photos etc noticed a difference for sure. Then hit the internet to look at the supposed text improvement, which I can confirm. Text definitely looks nicer on V2 firmware I guarantee.

Obviously still not running Freesync so can't comment on gaming improvements running Freesync yet, but something does look different to me. I can't quite put my finger on it to be honest, I never used blur reduction before as I always said my screen looks better in motion with it off than on, but even with blur reduction off, this motion looks cleaner. Sorry for being non technical about it, just saying what my eye is picking up, a calibration tool would be brill to see the difference, I'm sure it would show a lot of change.

Another interesting thing. I had a few specs of dirt on the panel itself, nothing major, just very small, left them on purpose. Well, they are not there now, and also on the back of the panel I had an LED strip placed along the back with a colour defuser heavily taped over the LEDS to change the light colour and the brightness. I like having light beyond my screen lighting up my wall, it takes the strain off my eyes when gaming, well those tape marks had also gone. Now, whether or not the things have been changed or just cleaned I do not know, but they've certainly cared for my panel one way or the other.

Can definitely say beyond any doubt the screen is an improvement for sure on V2, I don't think it's placebo, it just looks different to my eye. If your contemplating having this done, definitely do it. From start to finish the whole customer service from BenQ, Repairtech, DPD has been absolutely top notch, marvellous and how we all should be treated in fairness.

10/10

Well I'm not happy.
I'm very tempted to buy this monitor but don't want to buy one just to have to arrange to have it shipped back to BenQ so they can fix their mistake.
Now I have to wait around for the ones with the fixed firmware to hit the shops. This means I'm delaying my Fury X purchase and may miss out on the pre-order price.

As always I'd rather these professional companies did the job and the QA right in the the first place rather than offer good customer support.

You are the only person in here, who slanders the monitor and BenQ but doesn't have one. Isn't that unjust or you troll us?

No mate is not a placebo. I had the monitor quite a few hours, before I made my post when I got it back. The difference in quality was pretty big, and was "standing out".

And I am happy that all of you got the monitor back, not thinking that Jason and myself were crazy only making these positive posts last week........ :D

Sounds good Tony, I really hope benq get back to pcm2/badass and confirm what exactly they have done.

Starting to believe that perhaps they are just swapping out the panels/monitors for new ones which have a lighter anti-glare coating, that one thing can make a big difference to the perceived contrast, blacks, colours and overall clarity/sharpness and when first released/reviewed, the benq has/had quite a heavy coating.

I think they definitely changed the panel for another one.. Mine looks too new for just a clean up job.

Very impressed with BenQ here.
