BenQ XL2730Z Freesync Owners Thread

I'm thinking I might just order a broken one and get it collected and fixed/replaced without even opening it (I hate repackaging stuff).

It really is a pity we can't upgrade monitor firmwares ourself (although it sort of sounds like there might be more than just a firmware change going on?).

I would say you correct, without a doubt my monitor was taken apart and panel replaced.

This monitor packaging is very simply layed out you really can't go wrong putting it back into box.

Exact same question here legend + can I go back to 16.9?!

I think I could deal with the viewing angles/contrast shift of TN but... would I notice or should I say... be bothered about going from CR of >1200:1 to <1000:1 and a very light AG coating to a heavier one (unless one or both have changed with the new panel/firmware)

The much improved motion clarity and freesync benefits would outweigh the viewing angle/contrast shift disadvantages I think.

Despite the asus being IPS and the same price as this, the crappy QC and asus's sub-par CS puts me of completely :(

The Asus has a lower Freesync operating range also (max of 90Hz)... seems a limitation of IPS for now, which is unfortunate. Were it not for that and some of appalling QC issues, it would be a much closer call I think.

I do use my monitor for work stuff though, including Photoshop, so I am not sure how suitable it would ultimately be.

The 35-90 doesn't really bother me tbh as I would be lucky to get 90+ FPS most of the time with max settings. According to the ex-asus rep, they chose that range over 40-144hz

Yup same here, I would choose the asus if it weren't for the panel lottery game again :(

If you are a serious photo editor then it will always be IPS, I do some photo editing but nothing serious, my main usage is gaming, films and tv shows + browsing.

Just picked up the monitor - everything is a lot smoother now and to me looks better overall. Using these settings:

Blur reduction off
Black eq 5
Color 11
Low blue 0
Instant on
Auto game on
Brightness 45
Contrast 50
Sharpness 7
Gamma 5
Color temp normal
Ama high
Dynamic contrast 0

Impressive turnaround...sent Tuesday, back Friday. Very impressed :)

Edit: first time being able to use Freesync with crossfire and no motion blur/lag...amazing :D

Just got mine back and plugged in and had a bit of a panic to start with. Wouldn't detect a cable connected, just set there on a black screen even thought my PC had detected the screen being connected as I could see on my second monitor. Tried swapping to the DVI connector my second screen was connected to, same result 'no cable detected' so had to dig out an hdmi cable and thankfully that brought it to life! After it working via hdmi the displayport seemed to wake up and then worked fine via that as well. Did cause more than a few swear words though!
I've run the ufo ghosting test and can now see the AMA settings take effect so that's good. First impressions are that it does seem to look a bit clearer but that could well be placebo.
Now to run through the Lagom tests again and try some games see if I can spot any improvements.

well night of Battlefield 4, yes without no doubt what so ever, this firmware version definitely has improved this screen. Had a few wow moments tonight playing BF4, seems so different and how smooth the motion was. Also, colours did look nicer.

Stunning.

And thats without Freesync wait for that mate you really enjoy it :D

When you look at a fully white screen, does the screen look grainy/hazy? Is it less grainy/hazy than before the update. Just if so, that heavily hints towards a lighter anti glare coating.

Falk, when I toggle between br on and br off while running the ufo test, the top ufo at 144hz is crystal clear when moving to br on from br off. With br off, I see no blur behind the ufo, the only difference I can see is the definition inside the ufo isn't as clear when in off position.

When gaming, with blur reduction on, when I move my mouse from side to side, the image is so crisp, but to me it almost looks to crisp if you get me. With br off, doing the same test I can see no blurring of objects at all, but to my eyes the motion feels more natural but still what I would call blur free. Again just to my eyes.

I was playing bf4 last night, had a serious wow moment playing caspian border, the colours of all the trees and the definition in moving between them was incredible. That for me was a a bit of a moment, go in and try it guys you'll see what I mean.

And nex, please don't hesitate to get this screen now, just wish you lived closer to me so you could come round and see it in motion.

Stunning

Hi guys
Is the image quality improved over the old 2411z ?
I like my 11z for bf4 online but the image quality is a long way from my vp2770 1440p ips monitor. If a gaming monitor was able to approach the vp2770 for image and then give me that fluid high refresh feeling I'd sell both of the above and save myself the effort of swapping between them :D

Ah, thank you.
I understand exactly what you're saying now.
It seems to be that the overdrive circuit itself or the AMA values were actually changed completely.

The way you described it is EXACTLY how my Asus VG248QE looks like at 144 hz at tracefree=60. There's absolutely NO blur behind the UFO (although you can see a very faint trail as this is unavoidable), but, compared for example, to Lightboost (120hz or 100hz) mode on the VG248, the UFO isn't as crystal clear.

On the Benq XL2720Z, if I do the same test, with blur reduction off (trying to keep it the same as the Asus VG248QE), it's just a blurry mess behind the UFO (just too much RTC artifacts). And that's at 144 hz. The VG248QE just looks miles better.

So I take it that the XL2730Z looks very similar to the VG248 now? The VG248 was known for having amoung the lowest overdrive artifacts of any TN screen at the time. And Benq was always known for too much overdrive.

Looks like they finally fixed that.

That UFO test doesn't work on my screen at 144Hz (got the Asus VG278HE at the minute), the fps only goes to 134, and it keeps saying sync failure, when i switch to 120Hz, its fine, 120fps, and valid.
