Best Retro Handheld

Because that's the paid for version. There is a free version on the Play store but Anbernic are mugging off the emulator devs.
Right, so the apps / config isnt in any way tied to an account?
e.g. Apple appstore you sign in and get your apps which you have paid for. I thought Android would be similar with Playstore - Sign in to access your purchases.
If there's a load of paid for apps that are included for free (that are in no way tied to accounts) isnt this a security issue? Couldn't anyone potentially pay for and download any app and share it as they see fit, maybe even modify it before? Guess it's not the same as iOS.

Play store and app purchasing works the same as on Apple for any regular user. Buy your app, it's linked to your account and you can download to your other devices once you sign in.

But Anbernic are customising their version of Android and I presume side loading paid-for versions of the apps.

So if i sign in with my account, do these sideloaded apps disappear?
Are the sideloaded apps even safe to open or use?
Can I login to the device without an account?

I feel like I might be making you worried about Android at this point... sorry if that's the case.

No, logging in shouldn't impact the preloaded stuff, I presume they just don't get updated by the Play store but don't quote me.

You have to decide on point 2, I personally don't sideload anything where I'm not sure of the source. Also, I want to support the devs as if they say screw it we don't always have a lot of options. AetherSX2 the PS2 emulator has gone through a right rollercoaster and now requires a right faff.

If Anbernic wanted to harvest your info I'm sure they could build something into the hardware, but it's more that they just don't care about copyright and ownership than anything nefarious.

I've not used an Android Anbernic device but on my Odin 2 and various other tablets the Google account is optional so you can use it as is.

When is it arriving?

Thought I’d ask first as looks like I’ve reset something on my miyoo mini through retroarch messing with the settings last night

Everything seems to have reset such as no game saves and I can’t change screen resolution with the usual shortcut in game. On loading a game it says something like ‘100% dingux gamepad configured in port 1’ which never used to pop up.

It’s not the end of the world but if there’s nothing I can do I’ll reinstall onion again.

Quite easy with a google search, just in case anyone else has an issue I did the following.

Applications->Tweaks->Advanced->Reset settings-> Reset main configuration

All back to normal now

Looks more than likely to have a MediaTek Dimensity 900 chip. If so, should be good for PS2 and Gamecube.
Price wise I can see the RP mini coming in at more than £200, maybe £229.99.
The Retroid Pocket 4 is £150 with the same processor, £80 premium for OLED seems steep given you could get the Anbernic RG556 which has a 5.5" OLED screen and is around £170.

I wont be getting one, but interesting to see Retroid competing with the RG Cube.

The RP4, RP4 pro and RG556 are not comparable as are larger 16:9 devices. I'm all about the 4:3 or 1:1 smaller / mini devices.
I have a Steck Deck and whilst its great, it's rather large for travel.
RG35XX H with the 3d printed Playstation style grip is highly portable, but there are issues - mainly input lag and performance of higher end machines isnt great. Portmaster is fantastic.
I'm looking (as I think many are) for a portable PS2 & Gamecube handheld emulation device.
