Best Retro Handheld

Yep, arrived in about a week - I think Tuesday this week.
Loving it so far and Android works really well with Daijisho.

Just need to work out how to load pico-8 carts in Splore.
Nice!

Yeah there are some lovely themes on Daijisho although trying them out means downloading and applying them, helpfully there is a theme gallery here where you can preview them.

I like Artbook Next, Pop!, Alekful NX and Colorful.

Sorry I can't help with Pico-8 as not really used it although I'm sure Russ from Retro Game Corps probably has a video on Youtube for Piko-8, he has a video for pretty much everything.

How is the screen, any light bleed?

Tiny bit of lightbleed when using the lightbleedtest in complete darkness and screen cranked to max settings.

Not sure why anyone would ever use it like that, as soon as somethings on the screen it’ll be way too bright.

I’m using this theme, not sure which it is or where too look to check!

I’ve setup Pico-8 in Winlator and got it working and Splore opens. I can download carts and play them…just no clue how to open the ones i’ve got (e.g. Mellow meadow)

Not pre-ordering to save 10 bucakroos. Any one ordered from retroid before - do you get slapped with import vat or do they ship from a UK warehouse too?

Yeah same, I'd rather wait until Russ and Joey have had hands on.

I like the idea of the Mini and love an OLED but that seems pretty expensive. I'd have preferred a 4" screen.

Also worth calling out the new Retroids are running Android 10 bizarrely... this debuted in 2019 and no longer receives security updates.

Even weirder considering the RP4/4 Pro had Android 13.

From Liliputing:
While the handheld ships with Android 10 software, it’s also the first game console from Retroid with official support for Linux: the company says users can install Batocera or Armbian, and the kernel source will be available for developers that want to port other operating systems.

That does open up emulation from systems that don't have working android emulators (Wii U, Original Xbox etc)

The product pages list 13 for the 5 and 10 for the mini, which doesn’t make sense either.

I will hopefully get one, but waiting to see Batocera working properly first.

Although I have realised I don’t get on with Android on a device like this with my flip, would be interested to see if it can do dual boot.
