I'm just building a new rig and I am waiting for a 24" BenQ to come into stock before OCUK ship my order I was going to go X1900xt crossfire (it's as fast if not a little faster) but tbh I think I like the look of this new nvidia card and it offers me an upgrade path to SLI at a later date (once the 2nd card drops in price in 12 months or so) obviously I am trying to build a PC to last a while so I guess this is the best bet?.

I have been using ATI for a while so what can I expect from this change in terms of image quality. Is are there any negative impact on visual quality using Nvidia (last card I had from them was a geforce 2)?

Just get the 8800 it costs the less than Xfire x1950 512mb but offers the same perfromance. With the added bunus of DX10 (when needed) and SLI upgrade path.

Xfire leaves you with the same performance the same outlay no DX 10 and no upgrade path.

Its a no brainer.

@ rippling please stop suggestiung x1950 pros in xfire. Its not the pefromance he is after.Hes after a bit more grunt.

you dont need to crossfire 2 x1950 xt`s or x1900 xtx
you can crossfire 2x 1950 pro`s
What you've said doesn't make any sense.....

jimmyjimmyo has said he was going to buy a X1900 Crossfire solution, which presumably would cost in the region of £500, and I said if he was going to do that then he should probably consider either a 7950GX2 or 8800GTX at this moment in time.

He could Quad SLI the 7950GX2 at a later date for potentially less money than the single 8800GTX, and probably achieve similar results as SLI 8800GTX (depending on whether Nvidia get quad SLI working properly).

Most of the reviews I have seen on the 2x1950pro setup seem to place them a lot lower in terms of frames per second on games when compared to an equivalent X1900xt crossfire setup which i know costs more but I budgeted for £550 on a crossfire setup so the money is not an issue.

I know I could overclock the X1950pro to get the performance up but I need these cards to last for a while.

Will the NDA on the new Nvidia cards hold up until the 8th or do you think we will see some real game benchmarks before then?

I thought about the 7950gx2 but everything I have read has stated that while it is a great single card the quad SLI is a bit useless.

I just figured that Nvidia would find it easier to get SLI right with a new card

Well, I'd say if you were going to spend £500 anyway - then 8800GTX in your specific circumstances is probably the right move. It's probably the right move for anyone who is going to spend that sort of money (i.e. Crossfire) and isn't upgrading from something which is already comparable.

lets just hope everything on the g80 works as it should , nvidia is famed for releaseing borked hardware
BTW g80 still has to prove itself , i wouldnt recommend a new unproven card over a proven system, what if there happens to be problems with the g80 , first gen card , ati might be the same with the r600 , things that wont get fixed till we have a refresh ,

How come you have no GFX card in your sig?

Also can you post a pic of that 3.87 overclock you have or send a link of a shot prime stable please?

What cooling are you using?

Thanks

The amount of ***** that post crap is unbelievable.

Why would anyone who is not interested in buying something because it is crap, a rip off or not worth it because their GPU can already play the same games or any other reason start posting, complaining and slagging off people who are interested in buying something?

Some very very sad people on OCUK.

FULLY star out swearing. FF.

Have posted in your 6600 thread I have some questions

Pics please ;)
i will run it again tonight and post pics in my 6600 thread tomorow ok? any idea why pintscreen isnt working , it is a pain to get a good shot with dig cam!
also do you want to swap your g80 for my 9250 , after all 9250 is a far higher number than 80 lolol

Wasn't there an unwritten rule you should never buy the first card of a new DirectX version as they always end up too slow for the newer DirectX version and not much faster than a late generation card of the previous DirectX version?

Sure I would like one, but paying 500 quid to see a very slight increase is just not worth it.

I am much more interested in a 65nm 'budget' version they will no doubt release in 2007

Some people want the fastest car,Cars are not my thing.I don't understand anyone paying 100 grand on a car when I can get the same performance for 20 grand.

Indeed. Buy a Subaru any day dude! :p

Im tempted to get one of these G80's more and more each day. Just need to know if it's gonna be much faster than the GX2 to be worth the upgrade.

I don't think those 3dmark scores are that bad you goto remember its only 1 card, not 2 on a board like a 7950gx2 or a sli/crossfire rig, they better than i expected of a single card.

Quoted for truth. Same thing happened when the X1950XTX came out and people were saying it sucked because it was getting demolished by the GX2. I mean, well what the heck do you expect?! GX2 is more or less two 7900GTs, very powerful cards anyway.

Also remember as drivers get tweaked better, vista/dx10 comes out and games start to harness its full potential we'll see the card surpassing the current gen even more.

I'm tempted because I'm due a complete PC rebuild for the first time in 3 years so i may as well treat myself to something top of the line (i'm currently on AGP). I also want to go for a 24" monitor at 1900x1200 so every bit of help in the performance stakes will be good. :)

Having said all that, unless I had the money burning a hole in my pocket I wouldn't go G80/R600 if I already had a 1900/GX2 type card at the moment. If you have a higher end card currently this time next year would be a better bet for the refresh cards (i can't see them being much before this time next year).
