And thats why in 12 months time 'inferior' 360/PS3 technology will be outperfroming the latest PC titles run on G80.

PC's extra grunt is wasted.

Yeah true, too an extent. The hardware inside the consoles these days is worth quite a lot more than it costs to produce, as the companies make the cash back in game sales\licensing.

Games for a console ARE tweaked heavily for each one, hardware is all the same so they spend the time doing it. There is no point with a pc because there's so many different configurations of hardware...

the best they could do for a uniform standard is directx and thats just another layer between the hardware and the software at the end of the day to make it easy for the developers to program....something like that anyway....

I kinda disagree though, a top end pc now outperforms the xbox360 and most likely the ps2 as they are similar in terms of power, take a look at games like Prey\oblivion\quake4 - all play way better on a pc (providied you have top end kit)

The amount of ***** that post crap is unbelievable.

Why would anyone who is not interested in buying something because it is crap, a rip off or not worth it because their GPU can already play the same games or any other reason start posting, complaining and slagging off people who are interested in buying something?

Some very very sad people on OCUK.

Yep its a funny old place full of dusty old grumpy washed up overclockers, bitter that everyone is getting in on it, bitter that thinks aren't like they were back in the day of the Radeo 9700\Geforce4 Ti4200\Athlon XP 2100+ tbred core :)

They don't like spending money, they don't like paying for the latest kit, and the just love to tell you what to do with your money repeatedly making you feel inferior (well trying) to with their super hi iq's :)

I think ya just get used to it after a while, anyone can turn into one of these people. I used to be like this, i tend to not really like the mentality of these people, a bit like an ex-smoker is always the one complaining about smokers.

Still they're all ok, have to just take it all with a pinch of salt, its not the real world and they do help people out a lot and they're pretty friendly really, they just think they're right all the time....like me. hard to keep things light sometimes and people thinky your some kind of arse in real life....

still :)

This should be a hell of an upgrade from my 6800GT!

Why is this new release causing so much upset for a few in this thread? It's like an irrational hatred

All new cards are sky high prices to start with.

Jealousy* /nod...

.

*... this is meant to to be funny, a jest or jape if you will. No need for nickers to be got into a twist or rants about more money than sense,nVidia is the debil and Gibbo eats babies for lunch for pricing video cards at more than 5 bob each. ;)

Its because of the DX 10 features that cannot be utilised until vista.

Some forget that its a next gen card and is simlpy faster than all the cards before.Nothing different than top cards that have come and gone.

the 7900 GTX was 499 here at overclock on release.

The 8800 is nothing new in costing £500 I just wish that some would remember this.

Cheaper than buying two 7900gtx's for the same if not better (and more) peformance? We'll see soon enough :p

are dx10 cards pci express?

I would say so.

I think i saw a road map a couple months back showing that PCI-E is here to stay for another year or 2 and then PCI-E 2 will come out :)

Agp is pretty much a gonna i would think :)

There will be AGP cards available for good few years to come, yep years. Just don't expect them to be top end versions or cheap.

nvidia\ati might drop AGP soon but if you've got an AGP slot still then you shouldnt be even bothering to buy a branded graphics card by this time next year as the rest of your system will be totally underpowered for it. (an AGP version of a next gen card, if it ever got released).

Supposedly the CD-R was due to be extinct by the year 2000....

EDO ram lasted a good 5 years longer than people thought it would, can still be bought new....

AGP will stay, but you'll pay a premium for it and what gets released soon will be just for compatability sake.

Rofl, two things to say about that. I'm pretty sure that none of the major E-Tailors sell CD-R drives that are just CD-R. You can buy them as part of a DVD-RW/DVD Rom drive.. But I'm 99% that no major etailors stock them anymore.

AGP is quite a different matter though, because for the price of a top end AGP card you can buy a new PCI-E motherboard and a PCI-E graphics card. They really can't be compared imo.

Agp technology is not bad, even when is about chunks of data of 2.2GB, the trouble is the chipsets makers like intel , they could make a faster chipset.
The actual AGP 8x, using a 32-bit channel operating at 66 MHz, strobing eight times per clock, delivering an effective 533 MHz resulting in a maximum data rate of 2133 MB/s (2 GB/s); 0.8 V signaling.(66 MHz X 8x = 528 MHz bus)
But here look the bus 533Mhz, it could be develop up to 800 Mhz(12x) and 1066Mhz (16x) about 4Gb/s (4256mb).
Agp as a paralleled technology could be more develop, like SCSI in hard drives, which is better than the serial ATA.In theory, agp cards will be better to be interconnected than PCIe cards for the way they work, paralleled and serial.
Now pci express started as a serial, now can do 4Gb/s, cause is full duplex as a serial.

Dam right!

(I'm kidding I have no idea what that means. It sounds very impressive though).

About time i upgraded my gfx card, still using an 9800XT (works perfectly fine though, even in the Vista beta which is actually not too bad :P)

Dont think i will shell 500 for the 8800 though, i'll wait till the 8600's come out a few months later.
