It should'nt need to be funny because a 850 is not a 1800 or a 1900 card, but you did notice that.................... didn't you?.

If that makes you laugh then great.
No, that's not what I find funny at all. Where did I mention the X850?

I replied to you, and what meant was that if my X1800XT 256MB could run BF2 maxed out with a constant 60fps (vsync on) then your 7800GTX Extreme Edition shouldn't be struggling. :o

Changed my mind a bit now, I want something that is going to just cut through games (dx9), judging by loads of benchies, in order to smash through oblivion I'm gonna need a dx10 card. Plus VISTA, HDCP, you know. I bet if I bought something like the X1950 XTX I would cry when I wouldn't be able to play dx10 games, considering I am upgrading from a 6600 GT!

Is £360 enough for the 8800 GTS? I'm thinking of getting that baby next week. If not, looks like after christmas :(

It's gotta be worth doing overtime at work!

You don't need Vista, HDCP or even a DX10 card, get a decent decent DX9 card, I run Oblivion at 1680 x 1050, every slider maxed, full AF + HDR and AA and I don't experience any slow downs.

I don't game in 1600x resolutions - I play in 1280x1024. But anyway, this rig I have is new and I kinda thought to myself I'm better off giving it new components rather than stuff that is being phased out. But you make a good point.

The 8800GTS is shaping up to be rather impressive. For a little more outlay than the GX2, you get a little more in terms of performance which stands you in good sted.

I'd also look into getting 2GB as 1GB is prone to bottleneck high end graphics cards.

Oblivion ALL at max with no slow down at 1280 isn't going to happen, let alone at 1600+

Depends on your definition of "slow down", in outside areas with high vegetation it doesn't drop below 30fps, which is more than adequate.

Id say anyones definition of slow down would be if the frame rate drops at all, its slowing down.

If its 30fps all the way then its not slowdown, if its 60 and goes to 30, its slowdown.

Semantics, it's still perfectly playable and smooth throughout the game with every slider maxed at 1680 x 1050.

In your opinion

I notice you use semantics....
