BFG RMA question

Mw2 running no probs, just crysis seems to be having issues for whatever reason.

crysis runs quite poor unless you have a decent driver on the 295...try the quadro 191.66...i have tried all drivers and this is by far the best for me

My Experience

Hello everyone, Let me share my experience on the BFG RMA process.

My 8800 GTS OC (512MB) died unusually one day, no good reason, just put on it's fail hat and went to town.

To start with, I advise anyone outside the USA reading this post who is looking for info on the RMA process, whatever you do, do not ring the number that is on BFG's website.
Firstly, it costs exponentially more than an email, and secondly even if you ring at the right time of day, there's no guarentee that there'll be anyone on the other end, making the first point especially valid.

So, if you hadn't guessed yet, I started the process by ringing up >.<
Tried two or three times, got nowhere but the endless infinity of the automatic answering/holding service.
After finding and reading through this thread, I found the email address ([email protected]) which I recommend as the next best way to get an RMA started , second only to getting the legendary Jeff on the case.

So after firing off an email with all the information asked for, my RMA was set up and so I went down the local post office and sent it via royal mail special delivery.

Here's a copy of my RMA Status page:

Stage 1: Your full RMA number is *********
Stage 2: Your RMA was received in the BFG Warehouse on 2009-11-30 03:13:37
(Actually arrived on the 27th. There must be a field of high gravity between the front desk and the factory floor :p)
Stage 3: Your RMA was processed in the BFG Warehouse on 2009-12-07 13:47:19 and has already shipped.
[From USA](Arrived as predicted by Fed-Ex on the 11th December)

So, around a 2 week turn around.
Not as bad as some here, slighty worse than others; It truly does seem to revolve on if they have stock of the replacement card in Wales or not.

Like mengplex, I received a "Brand New" 250 OC. Plugged it in and gave it the Futuremark 3DMark Vantage treatment, and no crashes and runs at a reasonable temperature.

I say "Brand New" due to there being evidence of the card being a refurb, albeit a good one.

A battered and resealed antistatic bag:

And a restickered barcode ident:

So, all in all not a bad service. Pass on my feedback please Jeff ;)

Card I recieved back appears to be brand new atleast to all intents and purposes - and I did have a good look at it heh - not a speck of dust anywhere, sticker properly in place with no crumpling at the edges or signs of being restuck - not a finger mark or grease on it. So far still working fine a few days later.

Sent mine off last thing on a thursday and had replacement first thing monday morning - can't fault that.

I actually bought a replacement card to tide me over expecting to wait atleast 2 weeks as is usual with RMAs - and I can't deal with just 1 GPU at 2048x - but I'm glad I did as the gigabyte card I bought overclocks like crazy - so now I have a pair of those and my other 260GTX have replaced the 8800GTs I was running.

Seems i got it sorted, was reading some reviews and hapened across this:

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2009/01/08/nvidia-geforce-gtx-295-quad-sli-review/9

At the bottom they mention a command, done that and the weird slowdowns seem to be eliminated.

Have to say im quite impressed with the cooling on this card, don't think ive seen either gpu exceed around 75c, the new cooling setup with heatpipes seems to work very well.

Running beta 195.81

So far my experience :(

Tuesday 10am - send request for RMA under warranty and explain the fault

Tuesday 12:22 - recieve email from BFG - "If you would like to setup a warranty replacement RMA, please reply to this e-mail with the following information: blah blah"

Tuesday 12:50 - I reply with the required info. (at this point I'm thinking great, quick response I'll have this sorted in a few days then)

Wednesday 11am- I send another email to see whats happening.

Thursday very early in the morning - recieve email from someone else at BFG "I have submitted the request for your RMA, you should be getting an e-mail with the return instructions later today. "

Friday - Still nothing

Similar to above. Waited a day for an initial reply and a further 24 hrs on after sending the requested details, still waiting. Glad now that I took the decision buy a cheap replacement card to run in the meatime (GT 240). The waiting I'll just have to deal with I suppose but my biggest concern right now is receiving a used / broken card in return and having to go through the whole process all over again. Good luck to all those in the process and hope you get something back in time for the hols.

Good luck to all those who are going through the RMA process, personally it wasn't that bad but so gutting when the card you receive is also faulty. It's that which combined with the fact they didn't reply to any of my emails after is what led me to buying a new card. Now I can't be bothered wasting more money sending cards back again with the vague hope one might work.

thanks for that link:)

Well I finally have a replacement card. Jeff advised it had shipped on the 15th from the USA and it arrived today.

Seems to be another slight upgrade as this time they've sent me a GTX 250 OCX 1gb. Hopefully this one will work and I'll be able to play some games this weekend!

Edit: The packaging was a lot better this time too. The first one from the UK warehouse was just a standard fedex box with a bubble wrapped card inside. This looked more like the insides of a retail box with a proper slot for the card in its packaging etc so it couldnt move around in transit.

Even though it dragged on for so long I'm still happy with the result. It was frustrating at times but Jeff was helpful and it was a lot better than having to fork out for a new card this close to Christmas.

I really don't get whats going on with their email support, seeing tons of complaints about ti being sluggish and ive experienced it myself. Seems to have coincided with fatboy saying theyre leaving europe as well.

Sent my RMA info to them last Saturday, resent again on Thursday due to no reply.

And still haven't heard from them still.

It was really fast at the end of november i got my RMA info right away, its been almost 4 days this time...

Seems we should be getting a GTX285 OC in return which sounds like a fair swap to me. Finally think I may be getting somewhere with tech support. After several emails and jumping through an insane amount of hoops I could be close to the elusive RMA number (figners crossed).

Unfortunately I simply couldn't afford the down time but the cheap interim GT 240 card has performed way above expectations but it's still 80 notes I'd rather not have spent. Shame this process is not more efficient as I could easily have waited a few days but good to have the heads up from other members posting here about excessive delays, and just glad to have a working computer while I wait.

Don't get me wrong, the tech support gal has been working hard to help me through the maze of their returns bureaucracy and I appreciate all she's done so far but this experience has really put me off buying from them in the future even though all of my NVIDIA's up until now have been BFG. The cheapo card I bought was EVGA and I will probably go with them (especially since they have Euro support) or ASUS next time.

yeah they seem very slow....

Im lucky my old card (7950GX2) was in my sons system so I just popped that iN.
I put an gf6400 in his so hes got a pc atleast... Lets hope i get an Rma number very soon.
Untill 18mth ago (20yrs in) I was in the Trade and the customer service is not up too what I would exspect my staff too work like..

If I do get an GTX285OC back i`ll be buying another I think...
