BFG RMA question

Wooohh, now if this happens for more than a few people then its more than a coincidence!
Restart doesnt work for me, even left PC on to warm up; heh i've tried everything to get it back into life. The card is fried somehow even though when i last turned it off it was perfectly fine! I could understand the card breaking during gameplay but this...crazy ?!?!

EDIT: Whaaaaat the <>-< !! AlexHull you is da man... ok well i didnt try everything i guess.
So i turned PC on; fan on max and no display as before, then hit reset button still nothing pressed it again still nothing... held it down for 3 secs... still nothing... tried it again for 3 secs and well once more for the sake of it and bing.... the fan slowed down... bios came up saying no keyboard connected - DISPLAY signal hurrah! reset button once more and now boots up all fine.

Absolutely crazy, gonna check bios settings.. but nothing changed since i built it over a year ago. So can anyone explain this one??

I think I have the same problem but mine is in the early stages by the sounds of it. I have no idea what it could be, but we'll both need RMA's at some point I should think. I'm going to wait until there's no doubt that BFG could mis-diagnose it, and then send it back. Have no idea what they'd replace it with though, the OC2 has pretty high clocks but low memory. Not sure what an equivalent card is nowadays.

Alexhull24, do you have custom memory timing? (i mean mobo memory not gfx card)
So far resetting these seems to have made effect although perhaps too early to tell.
If it happens again i dont know what to do except try a cmos reset and failing that take some mem sticks out.

What board do you have? Mine is in sig. I am running 'custom' timings as they are not what the board defaults to with this RAM, but they are what the memory is supposed to run at. (4-4-4-12). I also upped the voltage by 0.1V to 1.9V (I think, the mobo doesnt tell me actual). The CPU is OC/d aswell, that's the only change i've made recently, however it is a minor overclock, hardly amazing, and temps are always less than 60 deg.

so what did u all do about this 10 digit problem, i just recieved 2 emails, 1 with my rma number and address, and 1 for the 10 digit number. shall i just send the card without the 10 digit thing?

ive read back, it wants a 10 digit phone number, uk is 11 digit, so i cant put mine in

I already stated what to do; Ignore the online form requesting that 10 digit number. Its an automated response setup for USA customers, UK BFG have got the same system that cant change for our own regional phone numbers i guess.

I got a abit IP35 pro. Its oc'ed Q6600 @3.4 (stable). Memory was 4-4-12 at 2.1v as stated it was the manufacturers (corsairs) recommended. Now they are at STD settings still with the 2.1v.

Seems adjusting mem timing causes issues now with the mobo and so the gfx card doesnt boot up and so no display.

Word of Warning

Hi there again, just a word of warning, I filled out the online form where BFG responded asking for the s/n details etc and twice used my hotmail email account... twice no responce for an RMA.
Used my btinternet email address and had a responce within 24 hours ;)
So I guess not to use hotmail email accounts while emailing them back, maybe it goeas to their junk email:confused:
anyway card now shipped off and I`ll let you know how I got on.
cheers all for the help

Hi all

Been having a look at this thread and have been considering RMA'ing my 8800GTX OC2 but never got around to it as I got so fed up with it that I replaced it with a 4870x2. Basically I built my system October 07 and from the early days of using the system I regularly got the BSOD with the "nvlddmkm stopped responding" error (there is a 57 page thread about this damn error on another forum). The card always idled around 68 degrees and under load would top out at 80 before crashing the system. I tried so many different sets of drivers it was getting crazy and none of them made the system any more stable. Crashes averaged 10 over a 4 hours period of gaming and once I could afford to switch I moved to the ATI and have had joy ever since.

So my question really is although the card physically works, is it worth RMA'ing based on the fact that it was so unstable that it crashed my system constantly? Incidentally on the occasions I took it out to reseat it, there was absolutely no dust or other reason for the heat issues that I could see. Apart from the change in gfx card the spec in sig is what was running it sat in a 23 bay Enermax server case.

Have it boxed ready to go just not sure what is next step.

Thanks

BA

Personly if you think its possibly defective i would think of RMA'ing the card, it didnt cost much. I sent mine next day signed for with cover upto £500 all i paid was £6-£7 at the post office. Mrma looks like they did no tests on my card due to the turn around time.

Thanks for reply reaper. What is my next step? Do I need to ring them? I found the US site very frustrating last time I looked into this.

When people have RMA'd to BFG, did you send just the card back or the full retail box/accessories ?

i know with Asus, when you send back the full retail you only get the bare card back.

Send back just the card.
And yea it would seem they dont check the card from what others have said. I begining to think i sent back a perfectly good gfx card, oh well got a upgrade for my hastle.

Well my card has been "received in the BFG Warehouse" just waiting for the confirmation on posting out a new one. How long did that take for people?

Hoping I get something nice and new for my dead 8800 GTX

Ok well i just got my card back little while ago wasnt lucky with the upgrades at all i got a 8800GT OC back same as what i sent in only differance newer bios than published on bfgs site at lest the card didnt have the same serial numbers on it. seems to be all working for now

@Whitter mine was sent out same day check after 5pm

Hey Guys,

Seems like I'm experiencing problems with my 8800GTX OC also. What seemed to be the common problem? Mine appears to play some games fine (such as warcraft etc) where as when I play games such as Far Cry 2, the new tomb raider I get completly random shut downs, where the screens go black and I can hear audio, then about 5 seconds later I get blue screen and Nvidia display error, this happens frequently when I play the 'top' games. Is this similar to the problems you guys have been having?

I have a RMA number etc from BFG and have emailed Jeff to see his view on it. On a side note, which courier is the most efficient/well priced for a safe delivery of the card?

Cheers
