BFG RMA question

Can anyone confirm that they've had a successful RMA recently - last few days/weeks? Might give them a ring soon.

Also - anyone had this issue:

1. White dots appear in Windows, 'snow' effect.
2. Super-hyper-mega colour artifacts in POST all the way into Windows, also random ASCII characters fill the screen!
3. No snow effect now, display resolution as low as can be, randomly coloured pixels dispersed between regular ones.

Does this sound like 100% a faulty GPU? Either way, I'm replacing it (upgrade) but I want to make sure it's not my PSU causing a problem here (no test-bed machine I'm afraid!). So I can at least get a free card to sell on...

Indeed

I've had two cards from BFG, and one was 100% faulty. The other I was able to use as it was an OCX card. Once downclocked the OCX card worked fine.

They just seem to be recycling old cards all the time. Hence the reason they have stock issues all the time and people having to wait 60 days on an RMA from them.

Rang again today after uploading my POP, woman told me to ring customer service as I only have an RMA for a 8800 and not the 295, rang yesterday and the guy told be I can use the 8800 RMA as I don't have a receipt for the 295.

5th time calling to the U.S, can't wait to see the phone bill as average phone call is about 10-12 minutes at the very least. Tempted just to **** it off on eBay as faulty.

That's exactly what they want youself and other people to do. I'd keep at it and find another way to phone them so it doesn't cost you so much if anything at all. I've read some where that people have used an online service to phone them which is free. It might have been skype if I remember correctly.

Same here. After 2 broken 280s I finally got a 285 OCX which I thought was a nice upgrade but was unstable at factory clocks. Worked fine when underclocked but they are almost certainly recycling crap. I've since changed the card for a 470 and keeping the BFG as a spare.

I don't want to even try the RMA yet from Finland so I'll try what I can to avoid it.

I discovered that it wasn't my RMAed BFG GTX 285 OC2 that had too high factory clocks, but it was the one that hadn't produced problems so far.

Downclocked the card to the real OC2 specs and ran 3DMark GT1-4 tests for 6½ hours without problems (previously 3D06 just crashed with a popup window). Core was 3 MHz too high and shaders 18 MHz. Also played Risen for one hour yesterday and I didn't see any artifacting/glitches this time. So far so good. :)

I also thought that if it would fail I'd get an aftermarket cooler for it and then it PROBABLY would run even at higher clocks than these. I once had an MSI 8800 Ultra that would fail the factory OC at somepoint with the standard cooler but would run even much higher with Accelero Xtreme 8800.

Anyone had any luck trying to ring them on their number? I've been trying yesterday (10/08) and today, no one is picking up. Rang 3 times today, after 3pm GMT and tried the RMA option and the £D card/motherboard option, no asnwer.

Heard you can Skype them, would anyone be able to tell me their phone number on Skype please?

Right. Just rang them and every thing's sorted, just waiting for them to ship the card which usually takes 3-5 days from when they enter your RMA.

Just a heads up to anyone who's trying to RMA their BFG card.

Use Skype to call them, the average wait time is about 10 minutes and to call them from Skype is free of charge (more companies should use this, it's amazing :P).

Their Skype number is +18662343499. Just copy and paste this and you're good to go.

Before you RMA a card, make sure you have the proof of purchase (POP) otherwise they can't initiate the RMA.

If there's anything i've missed, feel free to add onto my shizz.

Ta.

what is a valid form of the POP, i took a screenshot of my order from overclockers as i no longer have the email i received from overclockers, i need to set up an rma asap using a pc from 8 years ago and is very slow

Oh dear I have just seen this over at the jonnyguru forums

I did not expect them to go this quickly.
