which forks to fit, retro plush or budget new?

Bike guys

I need some advice please. You would think that in 12-13 years, budget suspension fork technology might progress to the point where it is usable.

Which forks would you settle for, the famous orange 1997 Marzocchi Bomber Z1 100-110mm travel forks with appropriate springs and oil fitted or a pair of 2009 Suntour XCR manual lockout 120mm travel forks?

I've asked this question in a few different places but never get a worthwhile answer.

What are they going on? Even though the XCR's are a pretty dire fork the Bombers would have to be in superb condition to perform as well as a 2yr old fork.

Too busy riding besides I find it hard enough to stay on the bike as it is without trying to take photos :D

edit:

rhys, the 661 evo is a great full face especially for the price, I have one and although I haven't used any others I really can't find anything wrong with it, fits great, feels reasonably light and was really cheap (2009 CRC blowout, 40 odd quid I think).

Hi

Just a hardtail frame for casual riding. The Bombers have good seals and bushings etc and can be tuned via the oil weight, height and and dual coil springs in each leg where as the Suntour forks have a non-adjustable damper in one leg and a greased spring in the other.

Man up dude ;)
I Smashed 2 laps of Cannock in 30C+ today. It was hot though, I'll give you that :)

I did 12 miles up the chase today and almost melted! Twas a bit too hot for me, first time my platypus has ever ran out of water!

On a side note my new 10 speed slx transmission was superb, well happy with it.

Lugging that around? Pfft - I'll take the G11 instead :)
Any recommendations for a Full Face? I'm fancying the 661 Evolution or maybe the a THE nonce protector...
(I get cashback with CRC / Wiggle)

The Evo is a really nice helmet, mine is very comfy and not to heavy either, and they are a bargain to boot if you can grab one on sale.

I shall play devils advocate and say they will both be as bad as each other. Get what ever will cost you less ;)

Yeah my motivation was quite low I have to admit.

It was super humid and we had some thunder but no rain which didn't help!

Had a really slack week this week with one thing and another, lowest milage since April  Will get back on it this week weather and work depending!

Looking at getting some better shoes too after slipping off the pedals when they were wet a couple of times when bunnyhopping.

I also have an Evo and it's pretty much spot on. Good ventilation, light and great protection.

I drank just over 10 liters of water just before, during and after the ride and i'm still thirsty now :/
