YOu but tell me where the **** im gonna mount a front mech on a bighit? So i need an E type front mech......which wont fit if i already have a chain device backplate. :o

Crown race = tiny screwdriver going round slowly and taking your time. Hit it in,push down on screw driver.....move on.

A mate of mine has the triple ring one on his orange Mr O,cant remember the name of it though.

Ah forgot you had a big hit :p

Cheers Jonny. How about fitting it? I don't have a crown race tool or headset press close to hand...funnily enough.

Hmm well the tool i use at work is just a heavy big bit of steel with a 1.5" hole through the middle and solid bits of rubber on the bottom so not to damage the crowm race.

My last bike i just slid it on and tapped at down with a hammer..... :o just made sure it was as level as possible, didnt have any trouble with that headset.

I just got a big flat-head screwdriver and tapped it down N-S-E-W until it got flush with the crown. Make sure you only hit the outside, not the bearing surface.

Is money an issue? My cousin got new Lx cranks from wiggle for just over £50...that uses the external cups and 3 spacers nonsense. So you could get your BB and cranks taken out and sold on ebay and pay the extra to get the Lx cranks.

Was looking at getting an FSA pig headset from work tonight.....didnt like that fact that none of the bearings where sealed. I think im gonna wait till i get paid and get a decent headset,a titec el norte seatpost,a hope pro 2 20mm and a saddle of my choice. Boxxer brake mount should be here by friday hopefully so im nearly there. :)

I thought it was just the bb I want to replace :confused:

It is.....i went offtopic lol.....hence the is money no object question.

Deore is ok.....mine is a bit worn out but i ride every other day,do drops.....etc etc on it so its expected. Xt is the highest i would go on a single bottom bracket.

Deores = £15
Xt = £25....

Deore is available in two sizes with E type though so i would go with that. I wouldnt go with Xt either as for just double the price you can have a whole new LX external BB crankset......which AFAIK uses the exact same bottom bracket that my saints use!

Just trying to suggest what would be the best in the long run.

so its the E type I want.. that will have spacers to jam the boomerand inbetween? what does E type stand for? . so for a BB i want. octalink to match my cranks.. the same diameter as my current one. and E type :confused: with the spacer rings?

thanks

You want a BB with a 68mm shell and Etype fitting. I think a 113mm axle should be ok but you really need to know what size the one you are taking out is....you want to get the perfect chainline so if you buy too short an axle you might end up with your cranks hitting the chain device backplate...if you buy too long an axle you end up with the crank a mile away from the frame and if you use 1st gear you chain is bending a bit too much.

Thats why i was mentioning the Lx cranks as if you get them you dont have to worry about axle lengths and ****.

Etype is just the term used for the front mech that mounts at the bottom bracket. The BB will basically come with an extra few mm on it so you can fit the chain device/front mech behind it. You 'could' just get a 73mm shell BB but is what you might have thought? thats ends up with your cranks too far to the left of the bike. :o

I fitted the Talas R's, it was pretty easy. I'm saving over a pound in weight from the Shermans.

I just need to fit a weenie 200mm disc (cant find my torx key ATM) and its sorted.
