Cannock chase bites back !!

I had quite a bad crash today in section 13. I went over the handle bars, landed on my face, got a mouth full of dirt & pebbles and my front wheel is bent beyond repair. :(
I must have looked quite bad as most people passing asked if I was okay and one nice chap even stopped to offer assistance but apart from the visual blood and cuts I was generally fine. Thanks to all of those people :)

A video of the crash - The clip breaks as I go over the handle bars because the lens was attached to the handle bar, the recording device was in my backpack and the cable snapped.

Crash video (18mb : Right Click -> Save as)

Photo of my front wheel.

Im downloading the video justnow but ouch at that wheel!!

How do you find those specialized tyres? Im not too sure about them as yet.

I've not tried anything else so have nothing to compare them to.
They are wearing down so I’ll be looking for some replacements before winter.

surprised the forks didnt break by the looks of the wheel !
definetly give them a good checking over
Thanks for the tip :)

What exactly did you hit? Looks like a rut between two mounds, yeah?

EDIT: Also: Full sus is calling.

Kona Dawg Primo/Deluxe, GT iDrive 5 1.0/2.0, Specialized Epic, or get a cheap-ish frame (Club Roost or iDrive frame) and transfer my parts?

Yeah the Epic is more racey and only 100mm but coming from a hardtail I think the brain would be nice (the 2007 one actually works well). Also I've never seen one ever, it would be nice to be different.

I'm planning on getting an Intense 5.5 in about 2 years (when I can comfortably afford to kit it out well) so if anyone cares about what bike I get then this is a bit of knowledge for you. :p

You need to decide what type of bike you want.

A Kona Dawg is an All Mountain bike (in between freeride and XC)
A Spesh Epic is a XC Race bike.

If you're after a BRAIN the the Spesh Stumpy Expert comes with one and will be stronger than the Epic.

Everyone and their dog's empty food tin has a Stumpjumper. I ride a HT at the moment and just want to take the edge off the worst of the trails. I'm leaning towards the Epic because I've never seen anyone with one, it'd be a nice transition bike from HT to FS and I don't ride anything that can't be done on a hardtail.

Ouch that wheel doesnt look too good.

Just watched the video, it looks like you hit a gap on the edge of the banking in the corner.

Good to hear that you are ok though.

A couple of weeks ago when it was raining practically all the time I came off the bike on the way back from work. It wasnt pleasent.

Came round a corner on a very slippery path, lost the back end and binned it into some railings, going over the handle bars and smacking my face onto of the railings. Got a very nice scar on my left cheek. Does'nt look like its going to go any time soon :p

I wouldnt bother my arse with the brain thing, just another thing that can break at one point or in a crash.

After riding my brothers stumpjumper i can only imagine any of the higher end stumpjumpers would be amazing. It only takes 10 seconds to lock the forks and rear shock out and weighs not a lot.

10 seconds is ages! I was hoping for 1-2 seconds at the most.

What do you guys recommend for a 4" XC trail bike then? Got up to £1500 to spend on a complete bike. If it's just a frame then less than £500.

Came a cropper at Glentress today, was in the practice park, just after it had started raining and fell on some downhill North Shore section. Ended up facing back up the hill on my side, a lot of sore grazing and a very sore wrist which is currently in some support grip! Felt like a right plonker!!

Well you could buy forks with the poplock thing.....and learn where the dial is on the rear shock and get it done in about 5 seconds!

If i see a hill i go all jeremy clarkson and dont care whats under me,be it a stinky or a stumpy, its just POWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
