I got some indicative pricing for 1x11 upgrades for my Bird Zero.AM that's due to arrive soon.

SRAM X1 - ~£270

I'm battling to understand why the X1 is more expensive if the X01 includes carbon cranks and and overall weighs a fair bit less. Have I missed something blindly obvious or has he got the prices switched around?

Wait, is that £150 on top of your total price? Or -£60 for cassette expander! If so thats a non brainer really...

I agree! I just don't understand why the supposedly more expensive option costs less. I don't know if it's £150/£270 on top of the base price + Hope 40T Expander that I've already bought. I really need to speak to Ben on the phone but he's proving to be difficult to get hold of. Either way, it looks like I'll be going 1x11.

Going to ride Blade at Afan Forest tomorrow and Twrch or Cafall at Cwmcarn on Wednesday. Can't wait

Rode Twrch and Cafall in a single day about 6 weeks back. Such good trails but that initial climb is a *****!

Why would you have a Hope Expander with 11 speed :confused:

Blaze is pretty good overall, a great final decent

Cafall is also good, just too short.

I initially ordered the Hope Expander to add to the 1x10 setup but then I got cold feet and wanted 1x11.

40 tooth hope expander is smaller than the top gear on SRAM aint it? Im sure mine is 42 tooth

Yeah, it is smaller. Biggest gear on the SRAM 1x stuff is 42T.

Just got an email back from Bird. I'll get the final pricing tomorrow, but it sounds like the X1 upgrade is £270 and to upgrade to X01 is a further £150. This includes what I've already paid for the Hope Expander.

I can just about cope with £270, but £420 on a hardtail is too much to swallow.

Agreed, but it's cheaper to do it when buying the bike and I only get one chance.

I've just gone through the same process and opted for 10 speed.
You can easily go 11 when parts wear out.

I'd rather spend the extra £200+ on a week riding in Scotland.

We'll see tomorrow what the final pricing is. I already have the Hope Expander on order so I have a backup plan if the 1x11 pricing is insane.

How do you find the Hope Expander? Does it integrate seamlessly and do you miss the 17T gear?

Haven't had any enquiries about my 2014 Giant Trance 27.5 1 on Gumtree or eBay yet

When I get back from Wales I might advertise it on Pinkbike and Singletrack too.

My biggest fear with eBay is that the buyer files a dispute with PayPal because the item wasn't delivered, despite the fact that I've stated "collection only".

10% final valuation + 3.4% PayPal fees really take the **** too.
