I'm after a bike. The main reason for wanting one is to lose wieght and get fit. I plan on doing mainly roadwork with occasional forest track type stuff. I guess I need a hybrid bike for this. I have pretty much no idea what I should paying for a decent bike of this spec. My budget would be upto about £800 max. With that in mind what do you guys reckon to the Marin Sausalito @ £699 given about half way down on this web page http://www.stanleyfearns.co.uk/hybrid.html

Hardly ever had a puncture on my DH bike running XC tubes. Have had a few on my XC bike, mainly due to ripping my Conti in half!

Personally I'd go for a cyclocross bike. Hybrids are the worst of both worlds rather than the best of both IMO.

Does anyone know some decent bike parks (Or just good areas) for DH in the South Yorkshire area? Looking to get a DH bike in the next couple of months but where I normally go riding isn't very suited to it. Want to see what kind of stuff is available before I take the plunge and drop lots of money on a second bike...

You live in Sheffield, the home of the legend that is Steve Peat?

True, as a matter of fact I'm about 5mins from the road down him :D

Thing is, the DH trails that I've seen around Wharncliffe are mainly technical trails, which is all good but there doesn't seem to be much in the way of large jumps/high speed. Would rather have some variation, or maybe I'm just not looking hard enough

Either way, any places people can recommend before I make my decision ?

The only one I know of in the area is Wharncliff.
That said the riding in the UK tends to be tight and techy wherever you go, unless you head to Scotland.

It's been over a month since I was on the FR bike, so a full weekend of riding is definitely required.

I keep itching to put a DC fork on it or buy a DH bike though, I like the slacker geo on DH bikes for when it gets really chunky.

Buy a DH bike! :)
The extra 40mm of travel won't make a helluva lot of difference I wouldn't have though, but getting a sled would on the other hand

The thing that still puts a smile on my face is the fact that a DH bike just picks up speed so quickly and stays that way for as long as you have the balls.

Would only be an extra 20mm, it's the extra couple of degrees slackness in the head angle I like. Currently got a 180mm 66 RC2X, might try to pickup a Fox 40 RC2 over the winter as my currently bike will handle it no problem and I don't want to sell the frame to pickup a DH one.

Tested it last May, first time I'd ridden a DH bike in a couple of years. That's the reason I'm hankering for a DH bike instead of my FR bike. :D

Only about 6mm give or take A2C difference between the 2 forks. So 1/4 degree slacker head angle with the Fox 40's I guess.

What you really want is a base layer, not a full on jersey.

Something like:

or Merino for a bit more:

I went and had a look at these the other day and tried them on, but I'm not sure which one to go for. The Frontline seemed more comfortable and was a better fit (being much more elastic and hugging my body better), while the merino one is apparently more versatile and better for milder weather.

Any suggestions? I'm swaying toward the Frontline, since it's apparently warmer (and hence better in winter), but I'm still unsure. Also, short sleeve or long sleeve?

Anyone else changed over to bib-longs for their early morning commute?. I've been using bib 3/4's for the last few weeks after the summer vanished, but my last commute a few days ago was kinda "borderline" as far as temp goes. Think it's time to break out the bib-longs again. :D
