Ok strange question coming up, Got Avid Juicy3's with G2 rotors and when they are wet, like when riding in the snow or rain, they make a noise i can only describe as a cat being strangled while being ran over by a bus..anything i can do to stop this - different pads or something?

I get this with my avid bb5s, not much you can do but it sure helps getting pedestrian attention!

Seems to be more of an Avid problem than a wet disk brake problem. Copper grease behind the pads is the most obvious solution. Doesn't always work with Avids though.

Thanks, ill try the copper grease behind the pads (never heard of that one before) i guess ill look into getting some other make in the future, and Daven1986 it sure does, but at the same time it scares the crap out of them when i pull up to a junction lol.

I get that with my Hayes brakes.

I usally half pull the brake slightly to heat the rotor up a tad, this usally sorts it out untill they cool down / get wet again.

Yup, same for my Hayes Strokers.

On another note, can anyone recommend some decent tights for winder riding? Waterproof if possible, and breathability is important for me – if they're usable in warmer weather too then so much the better.

I wear Pearl Izumi AmFib tights as part of my outfit when it's below 10C, they're too warm for anything hotter than that. Good to about -7C, then I put knee warmers on too. Above 10 I have cheap thin tights, then knee warmers, then back to bibs/shorts. You'll struggle to meet your winter and warm weather needs from a single type.

Well they'll mostly be for winter riding or for slightly milder weather when it's really wet, to fend off the mud and water. If it's just normal mild or warm weather I'd just use my shorts, so no problem there.

What about overtrousers – are they worth getting, from a dryness point of view? And what about waterproof socks vs. overshoes?

I just bought some dhb merston tights from wiggle for about £30. They have been on one outing in roughly 0 to -2C and I wore a base layer under them and I was nice and warm :) Wiggle say they are good from 3C to 14C although the reviews suggest they get too hot at 10C.

You could get some waterproof ones however they are generally not breathable. I am using rainlegs for rain protection.

I have some BBB overshoes and they are brilliant - my feet stay warm and dry. Although they can be a pain to put on sometimes, they are worth it and don't need washing like socks!

Pic of my new bike.
Courier managed to get here which was nice.

DIY snow tyres sounds like a plan - I have a link if you need instructions! I went and bought some - makes it MUCH more stable, feel better cycling than walking!

How durable are the overshoes? I was told that for mountain biking they get ripped up pretty quickly.
