The top bolt screws down into a star shaped nut that is wedged into the fork steerer tube. The side bolts hold the stem onto the fork steerer, where it pokes out of your frame's head tube.

Tightening the top bolts squashes the stem and forks together, and since the headset is either side of the frame, in between the forks and the stem - it tightens too.

I rarely fix punctures on the road, I just put a fresh (or repaired) tube in and sort out the damage when I get home.

I assume by fix puncture he means put the new tube in. I can't believe anyone would need help patching a tyre!

Quick question for you lot,

What kind of footwear do you use for flat pedals? Some kind of skate trainer? Quite padded with a firm sole or a decent pair of cycling shoes?

I ask the question as I've got a pair of Black Adidas Morka's. As you can see, the sole is thin and not that wide in the center. Even on my 'worn' flat pedals, my feet are starting to hurt after a couple of miles. I mostly wear them whilst travelling to and from work.

Ta very much :D

I used to use a pair of Lonsdale trainers that were dead cheap in the sales, I got them because they had a flat sole with a uniform/even grip (sort of honey comb iirc), anyway.

I recently replaced them with some 5.10 impact lo shoes and they're fantastic, very sturdy and the grip pattern/material on the sole offers fantastic grip, they're quite pricey at £60ish but well worth the money in my opinion, I just hate getting them dirty :(

bought a GT aggressor from ebay a while ago and today my right pedal just fell off. the thread on the crank arm is completely gone, it's a shimano deore lx, aparently they sell just the arm for £100 .
Since there is no way in hell I'm going to pay for that as much as paid for the bike, I started looking for cheap alternatives.

I'm only using the bike for commuting, just put some slick tyres on it so there's no way it will go off road. Considering that, would this be ok as a replacement?

Or any other suggestion really.
I'm living in an area that's got a fair bit of hills, however I never have to shift on this, I just leave it on the biggest ones and switch the rear gears.
