Bit of a long shot, but I don't suppose anyone here has spent any amount of time on a Boardman comp road bike (999 from Halfrauds). I'm almost set on getting one seeing as I waited too long to get the Planet X 999 deal.

Could do with someone giving me the sp on this bike. I've almost bought one 3 times now, I think it's just the retailer's reputation putting me off!

Thanks in advance.

same problem. infact theres only one pair of them on the bay. and didnt find many on bike forums either

seems to be a massive ebay shortage of bikes and bike parts at the moment. before xmas when i was looking there seemed to be loads

Yeh I tried posting a link but wasnt working  but they are on there currently at £40 which isnt bad.

I have some smartys on a bike i'm building. Not finished it yet so dont know what they ride like.
Got them because they are cheap (£16) and supposedly are eggbeaters with a small platform.
I've been using them for the last few years with no issues, I need to give them a bit of a clean up and lube now, but other than that they've been flawless.

EDIT: By the way Microwave, that guy is riding a Spicy (Fox 36, see)

Well, I had my first day biking after about a 3 month break, thinking I wouldn't get back into it properly, but I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I mean it was only to the local trails in Chopwell Woods but it was great. :)

I currently ride a Giant STP Single Speed and have decided it does not really suit my riding style, I prefer trails and things like that to Dirt Jumping; I went on the DH track at Hamsterley Forest on a friend's bike and it was great fun. So I'm gonna sell up and get a different bike. What bike would you recommend for light DH and some trails? Budget of around £700 - £750 I know this is more used territory for Full Sus bikes.

I'm planning to enter some XC races this year and to improve training i'm looking at getting a Garmin Edge 500 with HR and Cadence sensors.

Anyone have one - thoughts?

been having some serious thoughts about this myself. Been considering the student xc champs, but i think its too soon for me to get fit enough. Think i'll join a mtb club to get some proper training/advice before i enter any proper races as well.

I've looked at both road and off-road Boardman bikes and they are very good value and often get real good reviews by cycle mags. In the end I went for a Focus Varidio Expert (I wanted a Planet X like you) and I've just started the process of ordering a KHS XTC555.

That's mostly because I had issues with Halfords messing me around and I have this form of OCD meaning I prefer to ride a bike that is as rare as possible!

However don't let that put you off. Not all Halford's are as bad and the bikes themselves are great.

Thought my XC-604 was going to be rare, but 1 of the lads at work is just about to get a 2010 XC-604 on the cycletowork scheme.

I looked at the 535 but the 604 was a bargin.
Steve @ KHS is great to deal with.

Well I've never seen a KHS at Cannock or in and around Derby and the Peaks - yet! So it's rare enough to satisfy my OCD. I've seen one Focus in my travels (a Cayo - GIT!) and one other GT Avalanche (not counting my wife's) - I have a problem... :D :)

I went for the 555 as it is more suited to all mountain and has a slightly better spec than the 604. However for XC the 604 looks like a bargain. I guess not paying for a "well known" brand helps!

Chopwell Woods is ace. Was out there with Insomnia Calls at the back end of January. \o/

I really like Cube bikes, although I'm by no means an expert.

It's a low end build, on a bike where the company went bust last year and the fact it states they were going to be in stock 2 weeks ago makes me wonder where that stock is supposed to be coming from.

True, it's not a top spec bike. But the spec is still good for the money.
And our dates are different format remember - that says 2nd April 2010
