I don't know how good value it is, but the chameleon's a great frame... Not an obvious XC/commuter choice mind, bit burly and hardcore. But still, lovely. That's not the fork I'd choose, it's coming with pretty sturdy wheels and really wants a Pike or similiar to round it out... But then that'd make it even worse for your purpose :)

I tend to break stuff but I know what you are saying. Ideally I would like a c25lb HT but I have always erred towards the hardcore side of XC...hence dilema.

Still getting used to SPD-SLs , getting better - definetely a step up from flat pedals.

I think I'm getting a bit too cocky, trying to go real slow / standing still at traffic lights whilst still clipped nearly had me fall over a couple of times this week :p

I think everyone does that. ;)

I know I did, you get up to a junction, slow down and think "Nah....wont bother unclipping" and try and move out to beat the traffic. Then something makes you stop and you suddenly realise you are still clipped in. Then *BOOM*, down you go....!!!

It's an easy mistake to make. A learning experience, so to speak. ;)

You can go hardcore and still be light, but it's spendy... That's why I love my Soul :cool:Frame weighs 4.2lbs but it holds a 130mm fork and it'll take anything I throw at it... But when I drop my revs to 100mm, it'd make a passable XC race bike. Best of both worlds. Though not as good at the rough stuff as my mate's chameleon with thors in, it's a monster.

But to get it to the same spec as that Chameleon would be pretty pricey.
