*** Big Fat Weight Loss Thread ***

Don't worry about it, we went out for a Chinese on Saturday and then homemade pizza yesterday. Although the chinese was for lunch and i was then too full for tea since it was 4 courses for €12!

Yesterday i had toast for breakfast and then by the time we'd been out and about and then i got back and went for a ride, we had pizza around 5ish so in theory yesterday at least should've been a deficit.

86.2kg this morning. Had an 86.something yesterday too. Cycling three times a week (in the gym) has been great, but I do wonder whether being forced to walk to work and back a couple of times this week has made the difference. I usually cycle it, so not sedentary in the morning, but walking is a much longer process.

Half a bottle of wine and a take out isn’t going to be hugely helpful, but it’s been a ridiculously busy two weeks.

Having crept back to between 101 and 102 over the last few weeks I just weighed myself after a 90km bike ride and weighed at 99.8kg

Not sure that should count :p
It all counts! 90k is a great distance on the bike! Not had the weather for that for a bit over here in recent weeks!

I’m slightly concerned that I’ve had a “Christmas has started” weekend. Going to reel it back in over the week and try to keep focused. Lots of socialising over the next six weeks which is great fun, but not in keeping with weight loss!

Well in April I’ve signed up for 4 times that and on gravel so need to do everything I can!

You’re smashed it recently. A little slip and enjoying the next month is deserved!

Thank you! It’s been nice to see the work with cycling and diet paying off. Not going to beat myself up too much, just got to try to make sensible choices where I can.

Riding any distance on gravel seems like insanity to me, so good on you! I’m hoping to get my legs a bit stronger and keep the weight off over the winter so I can get some longer rides in next year. Got my eye on the Hook Norton brewery which is a 50-60 mile route!

Yeah. My issue is the more I ride the more I eat and cancel it out! Think it’s clear the regular booze is my issue. It must just stop any metabolising because I’ll have one or two regularly and think it’s fine because of the low calories without seeing the other impacts.
Not drinking after covid and then increase after is really making it noticeable.

Yeah this gravel ride worries me a bit but since I can’t run Ultras anymore I want to get into endurance riding and a lot is gravel based.
The goal is to build up to Badlands in southern Spain in 2026 which is 800km and 15,000m elevation.
This 360km and 5000m should be a good test to see if I’m capable but given 110km is the longest ride to date I need to really put the training in!

Well this year hasnt gone to plan and to cut a story short i was fluctuating up and down all year after this post.

Got back on the wagon for the start of August and im down 12.7lb this month alone. Overall since i was my heaviest at the start of 2023 im down 73 lbs/5st 2lb/33kg. I'm taking it way more seriously food/eating/diet wise and I am a bit more active with walks etc but i can really be a lot more active if i put more effort it which is the next step. i've had a few more notably active periods since which was 63km over a 3 day weekend in london and 14km at a zoo lol. I'll be honest in the past i would balk at the thought of walking so far. I think whats helping a fair bit is having a really nice comfy pair of trainers to walk in and being able to track activity on my new smart watch.

My aim is to knock off another 2 Stone by the end of the year, im confident i can blast past that but I want to set what should be an easily obtainable goal.
Bit of an update

Since 1st Jan 2023 im now down 84.6 lbs/6st/38.37kg as of last night. The 11.6 lbs from my last accountability post has only really come off in the last 30 days again. I had dropped off the ball a bit and from the end of sept to the end of Oct/early Nov i had 6 weeks of illness starting with covid, then a chest infection, then a horrible cold so i've been a bit of a mess.

Still much much more to come off but its all forward progress. Think im going to miss my goal I mentioned in Sept but all progress is good progress.

The social season is well underway. Haven’t quite gone full on mince pie with every hot drink and glass of sherry chaser, but goodness me the first proper mulled wine and cheeseboard was amazing yesterday evening. It’s going to be tough, but a few sensible choices here and there should keep me on a level I hope. Cycling in the gym is massively helping, although I’m getting to the same stage as last year of wanting to switch back to weight training. I think I need to get a little leaner before going down that route.

Was reminiscing about the old days and looked at some Facebook photos from nigh on 20 years ago (mostly to make sure there wasn’t anything Daily Mail worthy!). At the peak, I was a 107kg loose head prop and there’s quite a difference!

Almost another 4lb since this last post a week and a half ago. Now down 88.2lbs/6.3st/40kg from my heaviest. I'm down 2st 12lbs this year so far, so i reckon i should be able to hit 3st by new year.

While i've always though I cant tell much of a difference from my heaviest I saw my profile pic at work the other day and I think it finally kicked in that i am making visible progress. I had a bit of a "mirror moment" the other day after realising this and can actually tell i've lost some weight around my thighs, lower gut, man tiddies and my face. There's a long road ahead though and i've been thinking of what goals to set myself next year and what to do to be more active.

Decent work. I've had a bit of traveling with work recently and heading back to the UK for the Christmas do this week and that always brings pretty poor diet choices. Lack of activity and general reliance on quick easy food is never a good combination.

I've not been on the bike for over a week now. My indoor bike was meant to be delivered last Wednesday but still no sign of it, and it's been really windy here which has made me reluctant to get out in the dark, along with being busy at work catching up for lost time whilst traveling!

Do people have any plans for eating healthily over the holidays? Last year I took some time off and it set me back quite a bit, I'd like to avoid that as much as possible.

I'll still probably stuff myself silly on Christmas day, but maybe with more roast veg than usual.
