What are peoples experience with EBC brake pads? Been running them in the front for 300-350 miles now and they still dont feel as bity or brake as well as the gold fren pads I had in before. Only thing changed at the time was the pads....no bleeding etc

I think I'm going to swap them out unless I can find a reason for this
They need some heat in them to feel 100% and obviously need to be worn in over a few hundred miles. When they're cold they feel a bit wooden.

Personally not a fan of EBC brakes on the bike, I had a similar issue, just didn't feel like they had a good bite, I always use SBS / Bendix pads now.

It's not just the rain, I now have to park it inbetween cars and I don't trust them here, at least with the shed in place, my bike was kept away from the idiots!

Might be a stupid question...

Are leathers OK to get wet. I don't mean stuck in a downpour but a bit of drizzle for no more than 10-15 minutes? Supposed to rain tomorrow but I can't be bothered to ride to my mums to get my car

They don't melt if that's your question ;-) Take ages to try though. 10-15min drizzle wouldn't bother me one bit.
Depends on the leathers. My furygan ones are water repellent and dry in minutes, and they keep me dry in 40-60 minutes of light rain. Most leathers just get waterlogged though.

I only have a rear paddock stand to check the wheel movement but both feel fine, I'm going to order a abba stand tonight and save all the messing around with paddock stands.

It was serviced

4 weeks ago and i asked the mechanic to check the brakes and he said they are fine but i'll check it anyway to make sure. Maybe it's just the chain causing the problem, i'll price a chain and sprocket set up now too. :)

Brake, then put the bike in neutral and release. If it carries on braking then somethings binding.

Another probably better way to check is to go for a 5 minute ride without using brakes (stop without using brakes somewhere if you can, or just use one brake) and check the heat. They should be cold or maybe slightly warm. If they're hot, then they're binding.

Right, so the SV is due a service, and it's a big one :(
THe list is looking like
Replace:
  • Oil and oil Filter (of course)
  • Air filter (K&N went in last year so just a blow out)
  • Fuel hose £15
  • Radiator hose £100 + New coolant
  • Brake hoses £80 and fresh fluid
  • Spark Plugs £meh
Various 'inspects' including Clutch. :(

Has anyone any advice regarding replacements? I've used Wemoto to grab a rough price for most items. The odd one they don't sell, like Fuel Hose. I plan on doing all this maintenance myself if it'#s all feasible. Last years service i was quoted £270 from a dealer but carried it all out myself (with help from ever reliable father) for around £70.

I'll give it a go cheers.

What's the best front paddock stand?

I've just looked at the addon for the abba stand to get the front wheel up and it's an extra £70 on top of the £100 abba stand, scandalous money for what is just a metal bar.

Try fowlersparts as well.

They've upped that to £70 now?! Mine was £50 about 3 years ago. Worth every penny though. It's solid, will never break and works with basically every bike so I'll never need another. Problem is, if you buy one of those ones that hook under the front then you're limited to bikes with that bit under there and if you buy one that lifts under the forks then you can't remove the forks. Good thing about the Abba is it holds all on some main, central frame bolts so you could pretty much strip the bike to the frame using one stand.

No reason at all why you can't do that lot. The order in which you do some of it will make more of a difference. I suggest draiing the coolant and unbolting the botom of the rad to do the front spark plug. if you find there is not enough space then take the rad off. Once done you can put it back together and then replace the coolant.

Why are you replacing the hoses? is it because the look like they need replacing or because the service says to do so?
