Billion 7800N -early thoughts

Must say the last one seemed to make my wifi unstable, can't find a change log for this at the moment
From the Billion UK firmware download page:

You must reset back to factory default settings after the firmware upgrade, this is to ensure all changes within the firmware are implemeneted correctly.

Do not restore settings from previous firmware builds

This firmware has a improved wireless driver, also supports SKY MER authentication for ADSL

Looks like your wireless issue *might* have been addressed ;)

That's a bit annoying, its taken me about 6 months to get my kit just the way I want it and now I'm going to have to start over?!

Yes I agree, whats the point in having a config backup option if you aren't supposed to use it after a firmware upgrade? I understand that you can carry issues from one version to another but still its a royal pain...

Going to flash mine tonight and see how we get on :)

Thanks

Same **** - different version code.

Nah - nothing has really changed for me. The fix that the Austrialian put into their 1.06f to correctly output the FEC and CRC errors via SNMP still hasn't been moved into the UK firmware and they still have to fudge telnet access from outside the LAN subnet.

I only use the router as a modem - no firewall, no wifi etc so I can't comment .

Still haven't found the time to update to the latest firmware yet but from what I gather (over at the billion forums) it seems to be okay. Can anyone here confirm? Has anyone made the jump yet :)

The 'fresh' configuration bit has put me off...

Mmm I've been searching for days for a solution to my 7800N problems. Ive had this router now since october last year and I have to say it's been absolutely rock solid both wired and particularly wireless. Using the SnR Tweak I was able to easily hold a line @1.5dB Im not kidding! Then....

I saw the link on the snr tweak page that a new firmware was released that improved the wireless driver and thought why the hell not....

If you dont want to royally **** up your router do not upgrade your firmware. I have had nothing but problems since the upgrade from 1.06d to 1.06g. The wifi signal although strong throughout the house bloody keeps dropping connections all the bloody time in the evenings so frustrating!! I have reverted back to 1.06e as I couldnt find 1.06d and the problems persist. I am absolutely gutted, everything was spot on without any issues and now I have an expensive router that perform worse than the Netgear 834gv3 it replaced.

I suppose I still have a few months to RMA it back to Amazon but what the hell do you replace it with?

Look on the Billion UK forums and you will see others having the same issue. If I can get a hold of 1.06d I will revert back but I think perhaps this new firmware has fubar'ed my precious!!

:(

Tried changing the wireless channel?

Having it set to auto did not work well for me.

Got this router last week and its holding a poor line really well. I havent had a disconnect yet despite the low downspeed SNR which was actually set at that speed by Bethere. Download speed has increased by about .75MB from old WAG320N

Yeah Ive tried changing channels. Before the "upgrade" I was using ch13 but after the upgrade my daughters lappy couldnt see the router even using Inssider then tried ch9 still couldnt see it and eventually ch6 her lappy picked it up. Fn nightmare! And yes I did reset everything back to defaults after the upgrade..Might try buying that 8dB antennae, shouldnt bloody have to though it was perfect before. I would have thought reverting to the previous firmware would have sorted things out? Here's hoping dmsims manages to sent me the firmware and Ill update the thread accordingly.

cheers

Check that all wireless 'power saving' options are turned off on your laptop.

Can help no end! These are in the driver settings typically

Also, did you do a factory settings reset with the 1.06G firmware? It says that you should do one after upgrading to it.

11 wireless devices all doing the same thing dropping the connection although the majority show the full 5 bars depending where in the house they are and yes I factory reset...
