Bin men don't lift bags left outside the bin?

phone the council, say your bin has been stolen, pay the £15 for a new one to be delivered, put your house number on one bin, put it on the second but add an A after it and put them both out :D

I used to have business dealings with a company who supplies the wheelie bins. Bought an extra one on the cheap :)

I was provided no guidance. Others have said they get leaflets through the door, I've had none.

Your council have a website? Ours has pretty much all its information online if you need to know.

It's easier to fly tip than take stuff to the local tip, as the local lanes around here show.

That's more because people are happy to pay any man in a van a few quid to take away their rubbish rather than paying a bit more and getting someone with the correct paperwork.

Fortunately now being cracked down on and the owner of the rubbish is liable for a fine of £5000 if traced back for not ensuring they used a certified waste carrier.

Back to the original point, I always assumed they didn't take wheelie bins that didn't shut because the lid might snag on the lorry (depending on the tipper mechanism).

I have nothing to add other than that in the past year I've lived in 3 different areas and 3 different councils. Currently Glasgow City Council.

By far an away they are the worst I've had to deal with. In all respects.

Nope as they are thrown over into the lorry, if the is enough clearance for the lid to tip open. It makes no odds if the bag is pushing the lid up as it would end up in the lorry anyway.

Just more thumb screwing do as you are told ****.

They're probably told by their manager not to take bins that are overloaded. And the local council tells the manager that. It's not worth losing their job.

We have two bins where I live.

Don't usually use both but forgot to leave it out 2 weeks ago, needed to put both out (too much for one bin) they came by emptied one and left the other.

I was just like........sigh

Same rule around here, lid must be shut or no collection and at some point they have dropped to two crew, including the driver who has to get out to help. That causes a lot of hold ups on the double parked roads during school run times around here, I wouldn't like to put up with the **** they do.

Most of our road are good at recycling and sorting the bins, we make it easy for them and in return the regular crews take care of the households that do. Our bins are placed neatly, recycling boxes stacked and they will even get your bins on the odd occassion that you have forgotten or been unable to put them out.

You can always tell when it is a different group because they turn up later and it looks like a tornado blew through.

In cardiff our bin men are a nightmare sometimes

They will some weeks half empty your black bin which means you still have rubbish. Then when they pick it up next week I have to leave one on the floor because there is not much space and they don't like lid open

Had a right go at them once

They also will sometimes skip your bin if you have a tiny bit of black bag showing out the top but the lid is shut

It makes no sense that I have a massive blue bin that's emptied every week regardless of whats in it as I live in a flat as a single bloke and the poor gits in the houses next me make do with a bin half the size and get it emptied every 2 weeks and have 3 other colors. Proper madness, when we asked about recycling bins told us not to worry we wont need them anytime soon.

To me it seems that bin men have become lazier and lazier..
I can remember the time when they used to come into your back grounds and pickup your metal bin, empty it then place it back nicely..

It was a dirty hard job, but I had respect for them to do it.

Now a days they use every excuse not to take your bins and they will leave your bins anyway.. My niece will always have to move everyone else's bins away from the front of her drive, as she lives on the corner and the bin men have deemed it the local dumping spot for bins.

It was only this week when the driver of a bin van decided not to stay where he was in a open space but move 50 yards down the road to block traffic on a one way street in front of a hospital with a fire station a bit down the road. Just so him and his work buddy have 50 yards less to wheel the bins.

how did you not no this, and it makes perfect sense it helps ensure people actually recycle. if you recycle then it usually isn't an issue, unless you having a major declutter in which case just go to the tip.

now the choice of reycling container is stupid depending on where you live. Carboard around here in the winter is always covering the roads. Should have like mini wheelie bins for cardboard an plastics.

well round our way they won't take the bin unless the lid is shut.

LOL

Reminds me of a mate who experienced the same problem once.

They'd recently switched his area to a fortnightly collection and this particular week they didn't take his bin because the lid wouldn't close.

However, they had the time to put a tag on the bin explaining this! :D

To say he wasn't best pleased was an understatement.

Drag it to the back where hydraulic lifts tip them. There's full access to the back when the lifts are in the up or down positions.

Ah ok, so just a slightly modified version of the old dustbin lorry, not like the recycling vehicles (at least around west London) that tip to a hole in the top/near top - so probably not accessible by humans, but obviously the humans drag the bins into position).

We have these rules:

We will collect extra recycling, placed neatly next to the blue bin. Recycling tied in black rubbish sacks will not be collected.

We will not collect rubbish left next to or on top of the black wheelie bin. *If you think your bin is not adequate for your household's needs then you can request a different sized bin, but please recycle more first. *

Not a problem with us as we share bins with out neighbours if one gets full.
