Black Desert Online

Yeah, theres still plenty of things im finding out about and ive been playing it pretty much exclusively since mid-Feb, and im still so so far from being great at even 1 thing, i have a few life skills that are as high as is ideal (higher is still better, but much smaller gains and much much slower progress) but ive also got plenty that need a lot of work, months worth even, and then theres the vertical cliff face of combat from lv56-61 :D

I dont know how games like WoW or GW2 compare (I wont do subscriptions), but i like the diversity it offers, I like being able to do non-combat stuff to make money, and spend most of that on combat stuff to keep progressing with the main storyline and hopefully get to a point where im ready for the Lv61+ stuff the Koreans already have. Im not really into grinding, i dont mind spending 5-6hrs doing the storyline stuff, but when its staying in 1 place just kill kill kill, I'll look to see if my 30min XP buff has run out, and i'll have 20min left :D Yet i'll run from tree to tree getting logs, killing sheep for meat etc for hours - im not saying its fun, but its stress-free wind-down stuff, and the end goal is more interesting to me (logs = boat, meat = cooking = money, combat = 0.001% closer to the next level).
To me its a good sign for when we get a fuller SC experience.

Ah yeah, not sure why i was thinking that. The Secret World was the only MMO i've only ever played before BDO, and i enjoyed that and wondered about trying GW2 but i'd just missed a trial (maybe by a few weeks) and decided to hold off but never got around to signing up to newsletters or anything that might notify me of a trial starting. That would have been about 2-3yr ago.

Has the engine improved much? The performance always put me off, specially with the draw distance. I've recently resubbed and bought the new expansion to WoW... But ultimately, it feels empty.

Performance is great on my 970gtx @ 3440* maxing most settings making the visuals quite stunning.

The pop-up in BDO is just something that you have to put up with regardless of your PC's capabilities.

The draw distance is fine with 'High-End Mode' enabled, with that off theres low-poly stuff rendering closer than you'd ever want it to be and creates a very noticable line between LODs, but enabled the game looks pretty damn glorious IMO.

There is an engine update in the pipe-line, but i dont think its anything amazing, the stuff ive seen its basically artificial effects like more bloom, chromatic aberration etc to generate more realistic & lifelike effects, i dunno about performance gains - though some gains might come as a result of doing stuff it already does only more efficiently.

Yeah, not sure what they've done recently but theres some absolutely horrific lag-spots. I used to be based in Calpheon and i think 3 patches back (the one with the horrific pop-out UI implementation, which destroys any and all FPS you have) the place has become terrible. I always feel it when running between storage and the MP a few meters away.
I spend most of my time in Olvia now, nice & quiet, food dailies, can send my workers to Velia, Heidel & Calph for the farm nodes, and i have my fences there so i horse train nearby and go tend to them every now & then while desperately trying to lvl farming. Only downsides IMO is no marketplace, need to trek to Velia or Calpheon, or swap to an alt parked at Calph MP, the other being that its not the most accessible, but i now go over the Florin mountain rather than going round :D

Someone on reddit made a suggestion that they should create AFK/life-skill channels with a minor Life EXP buff, 2-3% would be enough, enough to give reason to leave 'active' channels and all pile into those channels. However we dont really know what the cause is, though im sure it doesnt help our hardware entering areas with 100 AFKers fishing & processing, and all their pets out etc.

I hit level 50 a few days ago & it feels like there is no challenge to PVE content, it just seems to be grind kill all these dumb monsters :(
Started looking into other aspects of the game and just not getting into it :(

I like the controls & the way you can combo stuff, so far it just seems there is no real challenge.
I watched some pvp videos and altho the graphics look flashy the combat seems basic

Still pretty cool they give you a 7 day trial for free & that you can extend it to 14 days to try the game out :)

I got to level 50 in 5 days.
Apparently the game starts properly at 50, maybe I'm missing something. I've definitely not tried everything in the game.

What are people's favourite thing(s) about the game?

The game is on sale atm on Steam & direct if anyone is interested.

Im looking at getting a 2nd account, and figured if theres someone who's got an account and has no intention of playing it again, any chance i could have it?
It'll barely get used, and the alternative of spending 10€ on a gift pass and getting a 'free' polar bear isnt terrible, but figured i'd give it a try as im not certain how much use i'd get out of it.

Im doing mostly farming for imperial cooking, afk horse training, with a mix of PUB & Netflix in between.

I havent touched enhancing beyond the predictable mistakes made early on, so that and trying to get hold of boss gear to get it to a usable state are a few of my longer term goals. I managed to get a TRI Kz Staff off the MP the other day which pretty much wiped me out, still need Dim, Muskan & Dande for a full set, i also happened to see a +10 Kutum just idle on the MP and was able to cash in a few house fames to buy it. Have Giath & 2x Bheg, but the whole enhancing aspect makes me nervous because i still dont have a strong & reliable income and its already expensive if done efficiently and with luck on your side, so its the whole challenge of building up junk reblath & green armor/weapon to build failstacks across multiple alts that im not looking forward to. I wish i could just buy those failstack blocks and pay more to remove the waste that is required with the hope of failing & essentially wasting mats.
I dont even do much combat, I just see that as being another one of the goals to try and aim for along the way.

Im also trying to achieve M2 Trading but not making much effort, im building up mats for Calpheon crates, but i think they're intended for Art+ hand ins, rather than basic levelling.

Started playing again a couple of days ago. I decided to buy the top pack instead of going back to my old account. The game goes on sale after I buy it lol.

I used to have a Valk on release but decided start with Berserker, fun and easy play so got him to 50 in a handful of hours, now just got a DK to 50 and think that will be my main.

I'll get both the berserker and DK to 56 before the catch up server time runs out.

I might have my spare account, only thing is you cant change email addresses, but I could possibly contact support to get it done.

If you go back a page (https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/posts/30678237) i wrote a somewhat lengthy post for stuff worth knowing early on. Theres a LOT going on in the game, and some elements are more important than they might seem on the surface, so iirc that post kinda explained what a few things are and what they impact. Nothing is permanent though really.

One tip i'll add, be careful when accepting some achievement rewards (ie 'reaching Lv20') because they'll often give you items which are locked to that character, and if you end up not wanting to stick with that character, those rewards are basically wasted. Ive got 10x 1h 50% combat buffs on a character i only occasionally do life-skills with, and other random items locked to them.

What character did you start with? I'd personally recommend either Witch or Wizard, simply because they're great for pretty much every aspect of the game. The only area they're not considered top-tier is in 1-v-1 PvP situations, they're great for PvE, boss fights & PvP in node wars. They have strong ranged attacks for single target & AoE, have the ability to restore HP+Mana quickly and easier than other classes making them self-sufficient. I also enjoy their 'Hollywood' style, all explosions and effects. Its well worth having multiple alts, and trying out a Witch/Wiz would be worth doing.

As for the catch up channels, those are for players who havent played the game in the last 30 days, so newbies included. They maintain a 100% combat buff, while all the other channels only get that from ~5pm Friday to 8am Monday.

Have a look at the Loyal Attendance reward screen (Esc > Attendance Reward > Loyal tab) and see if you have enough days to be able to receive the day 20 reward, the 'Lost Penguin' pet. You'll definitely want to try and get that, on the up-side, it's worth €10 and pets make the game much more enjoyable, on the down-side, you'll see how essential they are and want 3 more. They basically run around looting bodies for you, running around spamming to pick up loot gets very annoying after a few weeks.

If you have questions, im always around and happy to help.
