Black Desert Online

I really like this but trying to kill imps is proving tough as there are so many players there.

I got annoyed at that place too. To make it go quicker use your mini map to look for them rather than looking normally, you'll spot them quicker that way and sometimes get to them before other players.

I don't understand the channel server thing?? I joined one called Balenos 2 but the second time I logged in, I couldn't see that server. After messing around a bit it appeared again buy now my friend wants to join but he can't see it at all.

I thought maybe as there is the channel shift feature that there was all one server but with diff channels and you could switch between them??

Confused to say the least. The game is awesome though!

I don't think I'll be playing any more during beta but I'm glad I took the plunge and bought the game as it's better than any other mmo of recent years.

Some damn confusing bits though. I haven't got to grips with conversations yet, any success I've had has been more luck than judgement.

Depends what you want from end game as there can be plenty to do.

Graphics are brilliant though, the rain effects are superb with puddles developing and your clothes getting wet as well as your character.

Also when your armour starts to lose durability the close start to rip etc... and look worn out.

Had a blast last night to test out 3440 x 1440 and damn it's one nice looking game.

Shame about end game as it's the best looking MMO I've ever seen.

Just got to hope its not all looks and no substance. An MMO which looks like BDO and has the non-instanced housing of UO and the dye system of UO, the crafting of SWG, the large scale PvP of DAOC and the dungeons and raids of EQ would be the crowning achievement in MMOs.

Well 5 out of 6 isn't bad! :P

Seriously think they game would benefit with the addition of Dungeons, but there is always the 8 World bosses to do once you hit max level, i hear you need a guild to do those!

Slipped and picked this up last night, just the explorers pack for now, downloaded last night, looking forward to giving it a whirl this evening. If its good i might upgrade my pack.

5 out of 6?

I thought the housing was instanced in BDO? Each player has their own house, in the game world, that other players can enter? So 2 friends can have their 2 houses side by side. A guild of 20 people can have 20 houses built around each other to form a player town?

Good to know its got a dye system though, if there is one thing I hate in MMOs, its not being able to dye clothes and furniture, drives me nuts that such an obvious aspect of roleplaying is overlooked by so many devs.

Does it have persistant ingame keeps/castles to fight over like in Daoc? Several hundred players from each faction fighting for control of the castles?

Housing is instanced but there is no load screen, you select your friends house from the list and just walk in.

It has a dye system but i think there is a lot of rng in it, i could be wrong though.

There are seiges and GvG but i cant imagine several hundred can partake as the game would grind to a halt looking like it does.

I've not played any of the games you've mentioned so i can't really compare them to BDO, as Dave has already mentioned play housing is instanced but there is no loading screen, and every property can be purchased in a town (near enough) and even in some of the various nodes dotted around the map can all be player owned!

Town's can be taken over by guilds too so can lead to a few GvsG situations, i've not experienced any of the PvP as i've only got to level 30 in the RU version.

I'm glad it has a dye system though, a lot of games need to have this feature, i'm glad this one has it too!

From what i heard about the crafting system is that it seems like it takes a lot to build furniture, boats etc which is always a good thing!

In regards to the pvp content I've heard it's very gear-based and that people with heavily upgraded weapons have a huge advantage over a more 'casual' player, is this true?

Also how's the cash shop going to be, some people have said that it's purely cosmetic while others have said there's going to be things such as XP increasing scrolls (which also apply to horse training xp) and inventory increasing items etc. which is straddling the dangerous p2w line I've come to dislike in other games.

There is already XP and Inventory increasing items in the store that's about it though bar the cosmetic and other little bits. It's supposed to not be like the Korean/Russian servers with actual P2W items which is good to hear.

I don't see how what you mentioned is dangerous p2w line though, holding more things isn't a bonus and xp be it leveling or training isn't going to give someone a massive advantage over say a person who has invested more time and got the best weapon/armour.

Hmm..thats all a pity. Really this genre should have come much further than it has in the last 19 years. Such a shame.

I'd say any advantage over another person via the cash shop is verging on the p2w, especially when it comes to training etc. Sure you'll get there eventually by playing more but you're already behind the others at this point.

Admittedly the inventory increases may not be that much, is the standard inventory sufficient for the amount of things you have to hold for now?

Still interested on any comments regarding PvP being a gear based challenge rather than a match-up of individual skill. Currently at work so can't get on a lot of sites to check out other comments around this.
