Black Desert Online

In the pearl shop there is currently a few bits that can change stats but they're nothing thats going to make any particular difference tbh. It's all about player skill level.

PvP is gear based to an extent but if you're not that good then it doesn't matter what you use compared to someone who knows what they are doing. Combat is action based so you have to know what you are doing.

I'd say any advantage over another person via the cash shop is verging on the p2w, especially when it comes to training etc. Sure you'll get there eventually by playing more but you're already behind the others at this point.

Admittedly the inventory increases may not be that much, is the standard inventory sufficient for the amount of things you have to hold for now?

Still interested on any comments regarding PvP being a gear based challenge rather than a match-up of individual skill. Currently at work so can't get on a lot of sites to check out other comments around this.

I thought that the scrolls just increase the amount of XP you get from killing mobs, the same scrolls that you can get as a reward from certain quests? I could be wrong as i haven't tried it out yet, i will do tonight though.

There are also pets on the Pearl Store too, there hasn't been any mention of those, the pets are really handy to have and aren't just for cosmetics!

I think i've narrowed it down between Wizard and Warrior.

I generally don't play females in MMO's and can't see me doing so now.

Wizard is a lot of fun and the spells look wonderful but I always like the idea of Warriors hence i play them in most MMO's. Plus the armours look great on them.

Will be having a play of both of them over the weekend. Infact may get most classes to 20 and see then.

My character is a warrier at the moment, i've really enjoyed playing it! I'm not normally someone that plays them, i normally play Mage/Wizzard! My only concern is the amount of dps i can acheive during PvP

From what i've been reading they are pretty good 1 v 1 at the moment but not so much in large scale, once they get the 2 handed awakening weapon though they get much better. Wizard are the opposite and great for large scale but suck in 1 v 1.

I'm only going by reading the BDO forums though, my highest character is level 14 :p

Hmm, i didn't realise that if you use your skills from the hotbar, ie press 1, 2, 3 etc they've made them work either weaker or use more resources than if you use the combos to activate them ie ↓+Q.

I'd just been using the side buttons on my mouse to activate them normally, looks like the game is going to be a pain in the ass with macros instead for every single skill.

I doubt I'm going to invest a lot of time into this, unfortunately the things I've heard about lack of any PvE content and the grind fest end game are too big for me to not pay attention to. Blade and Soul lacks content end game, and apparently this is even more lacking, it looks pretty, combat is fun, but lack of content will give this game a months life span at most.

Again it depends what you want for end game content. PvE doesn't interest me in an MMO. For me it's all about PvP and this will have more than enough to keep it going.

Plus the KR has new content i believe so there is that.

All it lacks really is dungeons and for me they become repititive in MMO's anyway.

That said if it's not for you then save your pennies as you're right there isn't a huge amount of PvE apart from fishing, housing, workers, farming but can't see that keeping people busy long term who solely want PvE.

I'm not solely for PvE, I love a mix of content, some days I want to PvP, but others after a long day at work it's nice to just kick back and do some dungeon runs.

Doesn't mean I won't buy in the future, but would definitely have to see some PvE content first before I buy the game. That being said there are more games on the horizon which may suit me better, but it's a shame because right now I feel like diving into an MMO world, but there just isn't any which seem worth it.

Thats a concern of mine too, I guess only time will tell. Best thing perhaps to do is to bookmark this thread and come back 3 months after release and see how many of the Pro-BDO players are still playing and how many have left the game in the first 3 months. I worry about the Archeage effect, where everyone was hyped for Archeage, raved about how good it was and how it had x and y and z to do, then all left within the first 6 months. This is something thats quite common in the MMO genre, everyone raves about the latest new MMO, hype builds for it, people jump on the bandwagon, many positive writings come out for it, then you return to the thread 6 months later and find that everyone who was so positive about the game have left.

Most left Archeage because it was pure pay to win. The actual game itself was good and would still be very active if not for Trion.

If i only get 3 months out of this then it wont bother me, i hope it's a long term game but if not i can live with it.

If you bought the cheapest pack £23 your getting a lot of game for a small amount. There's no subscription so there is no need to rush through content and you can be as casual as you want.

The only thing I can see that will turn the majority of players away is the 'grind', this game requires you to grind a substanial amount. This is something I'm used to as I kind of prefer Korean based levelling and PvP.

Oh dont worry about me, I have become so jaded and cynical about the MMO genre. I've been playing MMOs for 19 years now and it seems that each new MMO keeps me playing for less and less time. Whereas the early MMOs (what I call the golden age of MMOs) , such as UO, Daoc, AC1 and EQ1, kept me playing for several years each, modern MMOs tend to only keep me playing for several months. They have ceased to be about substance and content, repeatedly make the same mistakes over and over , despite having 19 years of history from which to learn not to. Almost 2 decades on, we really should by now have an MMO which incorporates all the features of past MMOs yet they keep releasing new ones which have basic features missing.

All of which has made me cynical to the genre, so my thoughts are somewhat tainted :)
