Black Friday Deals

For me it's a RX 6800 for £500 or less and if i can get one for that price a 5800X3D, Samsung 990 Pro, and Ducky One 3 will be on the cards.

If i can't find the GPU for that price then I'll have to decide on whatever GPU gives me the best performance for that price at a later date, maybe when next gen Nvidia/AMD cards manage to hit that price and get a second-hand 5800X3D.

Grabbed a 5ah DeWalt battery yesterday and I am on the lookout for a table saw, need to rip some battens for the underfloor insulation I'll be installing over the next few weeks. It's also my birthday on Friday so might treat myself to a few things if I see anything decent. Not much else I need really but doesn't usually stop me from buying.

Black Friday: Shoppers warned most offers are not cheaper.

More or less what we all knew anyway.

Cyber Monday? Never heard of that one myself but I lead a sheltered life :)

Black Friday used to be good, a few years ago they were very good. It was the only time you should have ever bought philips hue, under armour, jelly beans etc etc but these days not so much.
In fact the under armour offerings are poor this year, with their boxers only reduced to £10 a pair which is crap compared to previous sales.

The 512gb Samsung evo sdcard at £32 was a good deal though

Just bought a Sonos Beam Gen 2, wasn't originally planning to get one this side of Christmas, but the 20% off offer seemed silly to pass up on.
Same here. I aslo got a decent deal on a telly. I do find that BF is mostly smoke and mirrors, I always check the rainforest deals on camelcamelcamel, see what the price has been over the past year.

Another pro tip, amazon quite often isn't the cheapest even when you consider the "free" postage. Its just so easy that I find myself using it for anything because its a one stop shop.

So you’re one of the culprits as to why I can’t get the ninja airfryer for the mrs!
Sold out everywhere…
It’s Almost on par with the gpu shortage :)

Yeah I've been looking for the last month for the Amazon Cosori one. Its been in and out of stock all month and they've hiked the price so I've refused to buy it until it all settles down again.

But if you haven't sorted out Xmas by the time BF comes along, do prices get worse even closer to Xmas?

Whether people like it or not that there's no saving, the article is somewhat unfair on manufacturers (I work for a manufacturing business so know this part well). Bulk of goods in the world are traded in USD at some point and has to be converted into GBP - if manufacturers are offering a price that is only equal to last year/earlier this year, then actually they are taking a dip on their profits to maintain the same MSRP as the $ price needs to be lower to maintain the same GBP price.

For example, take an item like a TV at £199.99 MSRP. Being simplistic - let's say end to end margin is 8% here's the sums:

£199.99 - VAT = £166.66 - 8% Margin = £153.33 cost to the retailer. Currently we're trading on a 1.17 rate so the manufacturer sells to the retailer at $179.39. If you look at the USD rate this time last year it was $1.33 so the cost the manufacturer was selling at to hit the exact same MSRP is $203.92.

Therefore, even though the MSRP has not changed, the actual cost the manufacturer has to sell at has dropped by almost $25!

It's not ideal of course and everybody including myself loves a discount but that article doesn't tell the full story of the pressures that retailers and manufacturers are facing. Of course there are some retailers right now where profits are obscene and taking the wet e.g. Tesco but there's a lot of other businesses out there really struggling to make ends meat and this type of article doesn't really help matters...
