Black Mesa Source

Have you seen any of the production pictures or vids?
The ones from blast pit looked superb and that was at least 2 years ago, before the other source engine updates that came in with Portal 2

All you'll see from those is how it looks though - what will make or break it is how it plays.

Besides, I have no doubt it will be good, i'm just saying that I think people are building it up too much and expecting too much - at the end of the day it's not a 'proper' product but I think people are expecting it to be because of what it is. When that happens, unless the thing is bordering on the perfect game, people will just be disappointed because it won't live up to the hype.

I'm expecting it to be OK because it is based on a decent game but I'd agree there is a real danger of the hype running away with it. It also wouldn't surprise me if it has quite a few bugs early on so most likely I'll wait until it is finished before trying it.

I'm looking forward to it, so that I can replay the whole HL franchise. The only disappointing factor, is that if I want to play Opposing Force or Blue Shift again I'll need to download some graphics mods, because after playing HL1 with Source graphics, it's going to be a massive downgrade lol.

I really do love all the HL games. I was really sucked into HL1 when I kept reading about how awesome the game was in PC Gamer and other gaming magazines for a whole year when it came out. I eventually owned it a year later after it was released, in 1999, and I will forever always remember the first impression it gave me when the game took you through Black Mesa, and saw all the Scientists working on different things and interacting with you, the player. It was quite something. There just weren't any other games at the time that had what HL1 had.

The first time you heard the special forces was epic. I hid in a corner listening to them talk. :D

I read they aren't using that version of Source.
