Black Mesa Source

If this is on Steam for launch, can you imagine the load on the content servers

It will be worse than Armageddon.

Everytime a MAJOR release hits, the servers/network gets taken down for a few hours here and there under the load.

I don't think this will get hammered anywhere near as bad as a typical major release

You maybe right.

However the mod has been getting immense press coverage as of late and the momentum of interest is definitely growing.

An entire generation who have not played Half Life but probably heard from many people it is the "best game ever".

This could well be the next major release.

On one databse, it has 41% interest on Greenlight and it is the most socially active game on Greenlight by a mile.

Being the most active thing on Greenlight (42% now) is no great feat though, considering the utter dross that is populating it currently. I'm yet to see a single game there that i'd be prepared to actually pay money for :p

I just think this is another case of the hype running away with this mod - I don't think it's as big as fans think it is, it's not even remotely mainstream in terms of widespread recognition I wouldn't have thought. The main positive it has, is being free, so people won't be thinking twice over whether to spend money like they might on a £30-£40 release, creating a higher peak demand off the bat.

If they're being sensible though, a torrent is the way to go, it will be flying within a couple of hours with the amount of seeds it would have.

Pointless comments *yawn*.

Has there been any word on the Green Light percentage yet? I can't find anything myself. I assume the correct figure is 42%?

Looks like the percentages drop out on a lot of games, quite often:

(untick the smoothing option)

Looking at the shape of that curve though, Black Mesa won't be anywhere near 100% before the 14th

wow shows how much u know! valve aint making this remake, its done by a bunch of random blokes in a basement!

so ur comment is invalid!

I like Half Life as much as anyone but they should be working on a new title, not a remake.

In a universe where Black Mesa is being made by Valve and not a completely independent group I would completely agree with you.

Unfortunately seeing as we have to make do with this universe, I'm just going to consider you a giant tool and be done with it.

I think i'm going to have to go with troll, the more I think about it, the more I don't think it's possible for a human being to actually be that stupid.
