Black Mesa Source

Only one issue I have with this mod so far is jumping. He just doesn't seem to jump high enough for anything and i'm always finding I have to jump-crouch to even get past hand rails. The ladders I don't mine as they're basically the same as Half-Life 2, get to the top and press F to dismount.

Hey guys! Jeez, looking forward to having a go at this as an old Half Life veteran.. The good old days! :) Is there a way to download this gem without using Desura? Is there a direct download or even a way to get this working with Steam? Cheers!

A little story from Black Mesa.

Managed to form a little posse with two guards and scientist gal.

On a side tour, meet another scientist gal who stays in the freezer.

I rejoin my posse! We have two new additions!

However, scientist chap cannot jump and now I sadly need to leave my posse!

We could have fought our way to the surface,no problem!! Alas,it was not to be.

The lob a grenade still works, just make sure you lob it to a different floor level.

Its distracted for a second and then continues to whack everything weather you move or not, so you have to sprint rather than sneak. I guess you could argue that it makes you work out how to pass it again, rather than using all the tricks that worked in the original, which is a good thing

Had a little run through to We've Got Hostiles tonight.

Now, is it just my ageing reactions and lack of practice or is this harder than the original?

I used to crowbar dance between however many zombies without taking a hit back in the day, but now I can barely manage it with one. The crowbar range does seem a little shorter, I think.

I used to play where I'd go thought entire levels with the aim of not taking a single hit, and I'd reload the start if I did and try again. Now I'm not about to do that now, but even if I wanted to there's no way I could...

Good fun and good nostalgia, though :)

Perhaps, perhaps.

Although, Half-Life was actually my first ever FPS (and there have been plenty since) so I'd tend to think I'd be a more experienced player now.

I do think the crowbar swing range is shorter. And probably the enemy AI/movement/tactics has been updated with the engine?

The rest is probably me just being old and slow... :)

I don't think it's been upgraded, they just have the ability to laser sight you from over half a map away. They could be in full conversation, backs turned, you exhale slightly and they're headshotting you.

I also hate this bloody helicopter, please go away and don't come back

Other than that it's been excellent so far. Fair play to all involved in the production of it, they've created a fantastic product.

I was sad when you couldn't bring them along as well. Though there'd be an achievement for collecting all of them :p

The crouch jump thing hasnt really bothered me, infact after the first few times it became second nature again, mibbe played too much the first time round

Not had a chance to play today but off work for the next 2 days so should make it to the end

Great mod, they should allow a donation of some sort, even to charity

A wee LOL at those complaining at the ladders, you go do better and give it away for free!....with no funding.....in your own time...

Says a lot for PC gaming, you get this, for FREE, this quality, the time put into this for zero profit, and still you complain

No

The ladders feel wrong, end of.

It was distracted for a while for me. I crouched the whole way and it didn't hit me once. The only part where I had to break the crouch was on ladders. But I just tossed another grenade and they went away.

I ran on the way back though as I couldn't be bothered to sneak the whole way again.

They're really weird about it I find. In the packing area before you go up to the surface I could generally sneak around and pow headshot them with the Magnum before they noticed. But when I got to the surface and there were 2 guards walking away from me I was about to line up a headshot with the magnum and suddenly I was getting a face full of lead.

The SMG sounds pretty cool in this. Magnum ammo seems considerably more common too. Good thing too, takes 2 body shots to kill a Vortigaunt or 1 headshot.

Crowbar uses the same animation or similar as Half-Life 2, back in the day the crowbar could swing fluently and quickly, that's why you can't pull it off in this game.

Just hit them twice and back off then hit them again.

So I can't seem to activate the eye scanner at the end of unforseen consequences after you go through the office.

What am I missing? I swear it wasn't like this in the original.
