Black Mesa Source

HAHA Thanks for the feedback guys. I finally opened that door. Can't believe how easy it was compared to my solution i.e. the most logical one :p

anticonscience, as they say 'great minds think alike' eh - nice to know I am not alone

Found all the weapons but i don't think i used anything apart from the hivehand once i'd found it.

Hive-hand is weak as hell... Sure it has infinite ammo, but it's not much use against marines or anything larger. Well, not when playing on hard difficulty anyway.

Ammo is plentiful late in the game - no reason not to use more powerful weaponry.

edit: I loved the animation for the hivehand, when you first discover it... Gordon examining it carefully while figuring out where to stick his hand :D

Had a couple of funny turns finishing it last night.

In one of the big pump rooms with the blast doors at each end i killed a vort and the body got jammed under the closing door, fps dropped to single digits for a few seconds then it picked up and spent the next 30 seconds with the vort ragdoll flapping around as damage was applied to it. Then it gibbed all over the place :D

Got to the last water room (where you drop down and swim through the tunnel) with 17 health and no shield. Yeah, took a while. Once you kill a grunt in the door way the door just keeps popping open and the vorts shoot at you constantly!

Seriously got an itch to go find a TF Hunted server after this section...

Finished the power up section last night, that massive thing made me jump, run and hide!!! :D really impressed how much better that looks.

Also has the best 2 bits so far, running around inside 2 vort's appear next to loads of explosive barrels, I ran backwards and they just blew up :D (the excessive amounts of blood was awesome).

Later in that section is a really fun pitched battle with the army where you can lead them into the trip wire land mine things, really enjoyed that sort of stuff as I was just running round a corner shot at them once and made them chase me into their doom....

So much fun :)

The battles with squads of soldiers in this games are brilliant, I keep replaying the same scenes over and over using different tactics and weapons. Loving it.

'Squad! Quiet down'

Argh... I wish there was an option for HL2 style weapon selection!

In HL2, the weapons cycle from the start of the group every time - so, for example, shotgun would always be "3 3 enter" no matter what weapon is selected. Here the weapons cycle from the present location, so the selection for shotgun changes if you have the assault rifle or crossbow active (and similarly for other weapons).

So, instead of just knowing the shortcuts, you need to dynamically adjust the selection based on the weapon you currently have active! The number of times I've selected the crossbow instead of the assault rifle and gotten killed / badly wounded as a result... Maybe it's just that I've played too much HL2 / HL2: DM.

Thought there was a fast weapon switching checkbox in options ?
