Blackberry 9900/9930

So so so tempted to whack mine on pre order but I think my t mob contract runs out on the 25th... would they let me port out early if I paid them full whack for the month? I reaaally want rid of my milestone and to have something that works robustly as a phone. Plus, new tech and all that :D

Give them a call and see what they say mate...the worst they say is no but u might find they will take u up on that offer of yours.

Of course they wont:confused:...its a £500+ phone so the networks will be looking to tie you in for at least 2 yrs, that way they can recoup their costs but yet still give you the phone free on lower end tariffs.

Aug 15th seems to be the release date for the network free 9900, already have mine on pre-order so about a couple of weeks and ill have this baby in my hands...cannot wait:D

Yeah I understand they're trying to push everyone to 24 month contracts but iPhone 4 seems to be available for free on 18month contracts in the the 40-50 pounds price range. Now we all know iPhones aren't cheap so it just seems madness to price something essentially higher than that.

iPhone 4 is due replacement immanently, mind.

True, I imagine it's replacement won't be free on many tariffs. SGS II is available for free in that bracket but I think that has been out a few months? I think I must be too stingy to order a phone at launch :p

This should suit my girlfriend nicely:D I too hope it comes out soon on Orange, she's gone PayG for now using my old curve until she finds a phone she wants.

Looks like I'm gonna have to do some blagging with Orange when this finally hits the shelves... Just logged into my online account as I can upgrade my phone as of today. They're offering me a 20% line rental discount as a loyalty reward, but they want £150 upfront for a 9780 or £200 for an SGS2!!

Granted I'm on a fairly low tariff at the mo (£20pm) but that would be changing to include emails & data once I get a smartphone so hopefully those prices will come down a bit!

You're probably looking at renewals of the current contract you're on so the figures are useless as you'll change tariff.

Yeah I've just been checking their tariffs page to see how much it'll cost me to add email & internet.

They do a few different tariffs which say "includes email & internet" but don't mention any figures. Does this mean it's effectively unlimited?

Yep u just need to make sure that you have a blackberry internet plan or its commnly known as blackberry email...that will be the data plan you need...its very specific to blackberries in general.

Not long to go for the release of this baby...a few more weeks and it should be out...Aug 15th is the date being currently touted at the moment and RIM have announced it officially last night along with some new BB devices ie the Torch 2 and the all new touch Torch.

One report saying Aug 12th for Carphone Warehouse today... gonna pre order tomorrow, screw the wait!

Let's say I decide against the BB and opt for something like an SGS2, does the internet & email mentioned in the tariff details here mean unlimited? Guess I really need to speak to Orange themselves and see what's what...

As far as I'm aware you are still under the 'data' banner with the internet & emails, which IIRC on Orange is only 500mb standard.

Giff gaff & 3 are the only true unlimited data plans as far as I know (not T-Mobile as they still have 500mb download limit!)

What does 500MB equate to roughly then? How easy is that you eat up if you browse the internet daily? I'm assuming streaming videos etc will eat into it pretty swiftly?

Well I've lived without internet access on my phone for nearly 29yrs and I don't use Facebook which is all most people actually use the internet for these days, so maybe I'll be ok.

I'm assuming (stupid question alert) that if I hook it up to my or someone else's WiFi then I won't be using any of my 500MB?

Yep, if you are using yours or someone elses wifi, then you won't be using the 500mb data, so at home etc, always best to use wifi :)
