Wouldn't factor in the D just yet, even the 4090D is specced higher than the 5080:

The mem bandwidth and bus width speak for themselves really It's not like the core architecture is very different to gain performance via efficiency either here.

If the 5080 is similar performance to a 4090D then the RTX 5090 should be somewhere between 50-60% faster than a 4090 and that is some speed increase. This is all assuming everything scales linear, which it does not. Anything is possible I suppose.

NO CARD IS WORTH £2000, the 5090 should be £1250 at most
Something is worth whatever people will pay. You can say an automatic watch isn't worth £5000, or a handbag £3000, or a Tesla £80000.

Nvidia are dominant in the market and their prices reflect both that and the demand among gamers with deep pockets for high-end graphics power.

I will pay £2000 for a 5090. I of course don't like these price increases, but it's still a worthwhile investment for me as a VR gamer and in the end they still retain at least 50% or more value when sold to upgrade to the next generation.

5080 looks like it's actually a 5070

5090 looks far off, most major publications are reporting a CES reveal... which also means the 50 series is going to be the shortest lived nvidia generation from recent memory

You're assuming they'll return to a September '26 launch for the 60 series. Who's to say CES won't be the new normal for launches going forward?

Whilst not a 'generation', the ultimate "stiff the consumer" move was the 3090Ti in early '22 at £2k+, which was then destroyed by the 4090 only eight months later.

It's not worth £2000 it's that price because people are happy with getting mugged.

It's worth what people will pay and plenty will pay £2k or even more. Just because you won't and don't feel it's "worth it" doesn't make it so.

Says you. Someone else might claim it should only be £600 and that "No card is worth £1250". What makes your assessment of its value the right one?

I'm sure someone can come up with a way to objectively value a 4090, though realistically it's hard to say what it's "really worth". As above, they could have launched it at £2k and I'd wager the majority of people who bought one would still have done so. There were many people who paid this for an AIB version.

It’s my opinion just like your opinion is just that an opinion and in my opinion it’s absolutely a rip off and people mugging themselves

theres a possibility that nvidia eases to a 36 month cadence.. after all theres not enough capacity to be producing both ai and gaming chips at the same time
