BMW and M Power Owners

this is the problem. He is willing to give up the size but he wants quality and toys. The new Q5 or SQ5 could be good but you end up on the wrong end of 50k after options.

Will take a look at a X1. Maybe even a x4 could be worth considering.
Sounds like my kinda man tbh! I had the same issue, wanted good interior quality and toys but wasn't hugely bothered about a big car and don't have the age issues he may have. As it stands ended up with a 6 series because it gave me what I wanted for a good price. It's freaking huge though.

Put my 330i in for its oil service today, quoted £320 for basic oil service, more than double the UK price  They're also doing a battery lead change due to a recall issue apparently.

EDIT: Questioned this with them and they said the correct price is approx £190, lucky I asked!

Been talking to BMW Oxford about an early upgrade to a G30, and they've got me one for for a couple of hours tomorrow to drive around. It's one of their demo vehicles so I'm hoping it's not kitted out with everything as that would mean a very expensive afternoon with the spec sheet! I wouldn't mind having a go with the fancy new key fob though.

Knowing my luck it will be a 520d with a pretty standard spec, which isn't going to do anything to convince me.

As amazing as the G30 is upgrading to one the second it comes out 6 months after buying a late F10 is stratospheric amounts of money flushed down the toilet as you've got to take a bath on the initial dealer premium you paid for yours, then the depreciation then the premium price on the G30 at this stage in its life cycle.

You'd be better off enjoying the car you've had for 35 seconds for a few years then upgrading once the market has normalised and big discounts are back on new cars or there is plenty of used supply.

Oh I'm not going in with the assumption that I'm definitely buying, I'm not that silly. But I had to call them last week anyway about something else and just got talking about wanting to upgrade to a tourer at some point, to which they offered me the chance to do an early upgrade. Of course I wouldn't do it unless the deal is ridiculously good which it won't be.

Given the discount I got on my car, I'd be very hesitant to ever buy a new car this early in to its life cycle anyway

But then.....this is me we're talking about, Mr "I need to go to Tesco for some milk....oh crap I've bought a car". So who knows what will happen

Of course they'll offer the chance, they are there to sell cars. They'll upgrade you weekly if you wanted, all nicely rolled up in a PCP package.

Don't fall for it :p

Ok thanks.

This really resolves around the extended warranty I am looking to take out on the car, as I assume there's less jumping through hoops in the event of a claim.

Fox can probably confirm, but I'm sure the Service History has to be spot on for the extended warranty. They also request evidence of service history when making claims. If it hasn't been serviced according to schedule, then you'll struggle to make a claim. I don't think FBMWSH is an absolute requirement, but they may want to see invoices for non BMW services to confirm genuine parts were used etc.

What are the must have options on the 5 series?

I know Professional Media is a must have, xenons are also one for me
Is there anything else that would be worth it.

Also, what is the difference between this option, Enhanced Bluetooth telephone and the basic bluetooth?

This is why finding one with FBMWSH will make life easier. There's too many blaggers and wide boys trying to sell their car with supposedly *full history* that are simply just time wasters. I actually emailed BMW customer service and asked them to confirm a car's history and they happily obliged, and although all they provide you is the branch name and date at least it is something to work with.

Finding a decent example without paying £lol might be a little difficult but I don't mind waiting. It's not even the most practical car for me considering I have 2 young kids, but it's a car I have had my eye on for a while.

They are extremely rare.

Essential options on a car of that age is going to be the Professional Navigation system and the Visibility Package which gives you Adapative Xenons with High Beam Assistant.

Agreed, it would make things easier but as these are getting older I imagine it's harder finding a nice example. Unless you need a tall boot, you'd probably be quite surprised... I had an LCI E92 330D and it could easily sit 2 adults behind 2 in the front and the boot was quite deep but not tall. Even managed to get a 4 chair and dining table set all in on one occasion!

Some have actually come up recently on the BMW site which don't seem too bad!
It's been a mix of 530 and 535s that I've been looking at.

It's to replace a ST220 so I will be downgrading in terms of space, but I also have an A3 Sportsback (which my wife mainly uses) that does the family stuff pretty well.

Another approach is to forget about the BMW warranty and look for a well kept 335i example that has had the most of the common faults sorted and keep a fund stashed away for a rainy day. It's not my ideal choice but an option I might consider.

Is there a recommended run flat for a 3 series? I'm likely to sell the car later this year and think it will be easier to do so with BMW recommended tyres, otherwise I'd get MPSS or similar non-run flats. I got the usual guff from the BMW dealer that they are run flat alloys so they wouldn't recommend fitting non-run flats  Only the rears are worn, mostly on the inside edge, due to camber apparently, but I think more likely I should have followed the 4 passenger full load inflation, even though it's usually only me in the car. Tyres were new approx 2 years and 9k miles ago so I'm a bit surprised, particularly as I checked tyre pressure regularly.

Anyone using the Bridgestone Driveguard run flats?

A quick search on Black Circles shows me I can get 4x Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 for not much more than 2x Bridgestone Potenza RE050A, so I am tempted to go non-run flat after all!
