BMW and M Power Owners

Possible, i do get bored quickly hence why i have changed cars a few times, it is a good car, the map really makes it better to as so much more driveable. I just dont feel fun in it, will see how the next week or two goes, my old RS4's allbeit are much slower but the noise and the engine is sublime, it just has such a stance. I dont drive far often anymore so its possible why i think i would prefer this sort of car, or as you say maybe a 911..... probably a bit to much for me

I recently put on a rear box delete from the states but it was rubbish, so back to standard, the DMS map i went for was the mobile service so no numbers i'm afraid, i can just tell you its ballistic and much more effortless to push on (less lag, more low down boost)

Hoping anyone in here can help me :) Looking to get my rear lights tinted on my 340i, and I found a perfect example instagram. That being,

Now, i'm not sure how they've got this look. I have a friend who co-owns a wrapping company, so i'm going to see him on Saturady morning, but he's on holiday at the moment, so i don't want to be bothering him.
Here's a few examples of his company's work. I'm not sure if it's just because the lights are on on the M3 image, but i'm not 100% sure after seeing a few examples without the lights on. Please help :p

DMS must have changed thier tune (no pun intended) as I had the disco mobile mapped but they wouldn't do it to the M5 as they wanted me to be happy I was getting what I was paying for. I might give them a bell now if they're able to come to me.

Good luck in your search

It's an M5 not a corsa, why wouldn't you have this done with a rolling road? I presume you will revert to stock to sell it otherwise, I can't imagine many if any prospective M5 buyers being overly keen on that basis.

Sounds like another Audi RS.. is the way forward for you, or a Mustang? I would have said 911 too but you have discounted that option.

Sounds like you need track car.

I think track car is a bit extreme. The modern super saloon is a fantastic car, but whilst they have super car figures it's clear that characteristically they lack the same fun a genuine super car provides.

Definitely think a 911 should be looked at.

DMS are very highly thought of in the bmw community its not a typical corsa remap box iv fitted.

this is exactly what i think / feel about the m5, i have had some lovely cars in my time but this one is good and fun but its not raw enough. Its all very refined in there allbeit very capable too

There's no accounting for taste, I guess..

Isn't expecting an M5 to be 'raw' like buying a Fiat 500 and then wondering why it's not very good at airport taxi services?

I never understand some people's criticism of certain cars. It's a 5 Series, it's specifically intended not to be raw. If it was raw it would be crap.

Go back to the older E39 M5 and compare thats rawness with the rawness of the older 5 series. The new 5 series is extremely comfortable, not a bad thing, the M5 is extremely comfortable, again, not a bad thing, but when that level of comfort starts compromising the driver enjoyment and feel, suddenly the M5 isn't as fun. This is all completely subjective so in many ways completely pointless discussing, but in others exactly why I like talking about cars.

I myself wouldn't go near an M5 or even M3 because I like my cars to be genuine sports cars, not saloon cars trying to be sporty. Hence my suggestion for this M5 fella to go down the 911 route.

It had similar levels of refinement to the rest of the range. They don't strip things back or remove soundproofing, it even had a technically less raw steering system than the cooking models for packaging reasons.

The 5 series has always been a refined luxury exec and the M5 not a raw version of that concept but the pinnacle of that concept.

I'm not saying that the M5 is 'fun' in the way a 911 is, im saying the reasons it isn't are fundamental to what it is.

I don't know why anyone who values a rawer driving experience would buy anything in the 5 series range. They are sensational cars and drive and handle stunningly and are fun to drive but in the context of being a large executive car not a sports car.

Lolwut? The M5 isn't BMW taking a 5 series and adding sports suspension and big wheels and calling it a sports car. It's a ground up sports car which has a 5 series body and interior. No one would, with any hint of irony, say that the m3 and M5 were saloons or coupes trying to be sports cars because, quite frankly, they'd get laughed at.

Is the Panamera a sports car trying to be a fast saloon/estate?

And as fox noted, even the F10 steering remained hydraulic rather than the rest of the range electric, and the only car to be made without run flats. It's a sports car, that even has a different chassis to the rest of the F10 range.

No it's not.

A Porsche Boxster is a ground up sports car. The M5 is a variant of an existing car, not developed from nothing to be a sports car

I meant, it's been designed to be the sports car model in the range, and by ground up, I meant, significant input by M division to be sports focused as opposed to a 5 series chopped about to make a sports car. The fact it has a different chassis goes some way to supporting that this wasn't a 530d which they added flared arches, big wheels and lowered suspension to.

But yes, it's not a ground up sports car in the same context as a Cayman or 911

An M5 is about as far as you can get from a ground up sports car, in fact it is the definition of exactly the opposite of a ground up sports car. Its a modified performance variant of a car which certainly isnt a sports car at all. :p

Having a NIGHTMARE with my 645ci mechanic work. I booked the car in with a local garage to sort out the lumpiness at idle and the vacuum leak/oil leak causing it. I cleaned the engine bay completely and inspected it and found the leak to be from one of the rocker covers. I booked gasket replacement which ended up being a new rocker cover too due to it being cracked.

This was around 10 days ago. I went on holiday to Majorca for 8 days to have a bit of R&R and the date of the cars completion slips each day. It got to the point where he was trying to finish the job yesterday as I stressed the importance of having the car back and running for Sunday afternoon when I return.

So when I come home, I first notice that my driver side front tyre is flat, nice one. I start the car and it immediately bellows smoke from the exhaust and is very lumpy and feels like it wants to cut out. I put my reader on t and it came back with camshaft sensor bank 1 and 2. If that wasn't bad enough, the car also has smoke coming from the engine bay as the "fixed oil leak" is now far bigger than before.

Actually gutted and feel like I've been robbed. Car is utterly useless as it's not drivable and my entire week will now be filled with trying to sort this **** out.

I won't name and shame yet as the garage has promised to correct the poor work, but I'm not Holding my breath!
